Bosh better take it. This is going to be his last big contract. Lots of money, sound talent, and Howard keeps him from having to bang down low and allow him to play that finesse 4.

That might free up the money for the Heat to sign Gasol. Going to be interesting to watch.

They are out of their 17ing minds.

I would love to know what kind of advanced stats show that he is worth max money. I wonder if they inadvertently used Howard and Bosh's stats from like 2009, and think they're putting together a championship combo?

Not sure if he's a max player, but he can still get 20 & 10 when needed. He played out of position a bit in Miami. The NBA is crawling with ****** contracts. But if someone is willing to pay that money, you are ignorant not to take it. The amount of money Dampier got in the NBA is staggering (over 97 million). He was a solid but not great.

They just unloaded a poison pull on my Pelicans, freeing up $17m and a spot for a big man.

The Rockets are one of two NBA teams with a true stretch 4, and I imagine he made a big impact on their willingness to sell out and get a starting PF. Howard, Bosh, Parsons is your starting front. That's nasty.

I'm also willing to speculate that the Cavs, Lakers, and Knicks did some back door dealing. Someone giving Bosh insane money effectively cuts down the reasons why LeBron would go back to Miami. Who's got the most to gain here?

because Avery Bradley and Gordon Hayward are max guys

??? I'm probably being dense. What point are you making here? Are you just pointing out that he's not any worse than a lot of the other max offers that will be made?

I don't think it's that bad of a contract by NBA standards, but I'm surprised to see the Rockets make it. They are not going off a hunch or being drawn in to overpaying for a well publicized player. If they are going to have max money tied up with Howard and Bosh, I'm assuming that means their metrics show that Bosh makes them a championship team (or maybe gives them the pieces to trade for something better?) since there's not much else they can do to add to the team at that point. Maybe it is just that they think Bosh fits in so well with their other players. Certainly having big men that can shoot out to mid range is important if they are going to have Howard in the middle.

I know he's from Texas and all, but you've got to be kidding me. He's no better than Terrance Jones.

From a numbers perspective

Meeks put up crazy numbers. If you had him on your fantasy team he was going to get you 3 3pts and 3 steals per game. But that was with D'antoni's offense and a depleted roster. He won't repeat last years performance.

Wholly incorrect. Terrance Jones is not a NBA starter. Bosh is an All Star. Bosh is a perfect fit to play between Howard, Parsons, and Harden.

Bosh, as odd a player as he is, should be compared to Lamarcus Aldridge. Seriously.
Almost same age, same position(stretch 4), same body stats.

Now look at their career scoring, rebounding, blocks, steals, assists, ft%, and fg%.
Its crazy how similar all those stats are. They are almost all identical.
Bosh has shot it better from behind the arc.

You say Bosh is no better than Jones?

Terrance Jones is not Chris bosh. Jones will be a role player big man. Bosh can change the course of the game and other teams actually have to game plan a defense around him. He presents many more problems.

And you would be wrong. Bosh is lucky to be an all-star. I remember when he was with the raptors and had to beg fans to vote him into the all-star game. He was the third wheel of the Big 3.

Jones finished his 2nd season. Bosh finished his 11th season.

Tell me which one is putting up all-star numbers?

1- being an AllStar or not has little to do with if a player is actually great/great that season. Its a popularity contest. So when Bosh took to youtube and made those quirky videos, it was his attempt to get his name out there since he didn't have the luxury of a large US home market.
All-NBA 1st - 3rd team is WAY more prestigious.

2- Jones has been very effective in Houston in his first 2 years. If he continues to play at the level he has and develops thru experience, he could very much be a top 15PF in the league in the future.

3- Given Jones' current salary, he is a massive steal.

4- Not sure why you included only 2 months of games in your stats above- odd.

5-PER is a useful stat, but it skews in favor of 2nd team players.

6- Bosh is a huge upgrade over Jones on D- at least at this point in their careers.

Jones won't be a free agent until 2016. And with his salary, they don't HAVE to get rid of him. But he needs time to continue to develop.

If you watched the Rockets last year, you would know that Jones should not be starting in the NBA at PF.

Can't say that I watched that many Rockets games. But I can say that I rode Jones to a fantasy league championship in the 2nd half of the season.

I don't care where he starts at, he put up numbers while sharing the ball with Harden, Parsons (although out for a while), and Howard.

My quib is that Bosh is not worth a max contract.
