We've got like 4 OL committed, 2 from HS. While I don't want to see Freeze owning the state, it's not a jump off the cliff type pull. Seems like Callaway has never really been kind to MSU.

What is Mullen doing? I hate to say it but Freeze is whipping us on the crootin trail in our own state

Allow me...

1) Bracky Brett's fault (my personal favorite rationalization)
2) Taylor is a prima donna (now that he has committed to OM) and we don't take those types
3) We don't offer WGBJs
4) Mullen doesn't care about stars, Taylor didn't project as highly with our staff as he is ranked
5) He won't qualify
6) Taylor fell for Freeze's snake oil Christian act
7) OM lawyers bought him with confederate money
8) Political Hack's hands are tied at the moment (firmly to C34's manhood)

He is doing what he is paid to do. He is getting the recruits he wants (not all of them, of course). As long as he is winning, I'll defer to him and won't get all upset because OM gets some recruits.

All these 'Concern Troll's make me want to read Elite Dawgs

(not that I'm going to, but damn)

Anyone not see this coming from a mile away, and know about a month ago, should just not keep up with recruiting. Even if we would have wanted to get in the game with him we aren't in the position to lock in a 4 for 1 for an OG.

I sure wish I could get paid to troll OleMiss's boards

I can't say I blame you guys for taking money from some guy that thinks its cool to get you to come post on our board, but I thought the point was to get under our skin. So far, it seems like "Operation Troll Job" is drawing the low-level talent.

Anyway - thanks for stopping by. I'm sure the admins appreciate the hits. Could y'all at least bring something other than recruiting? It's sad that all y'all have going.

I had a little fun above. It was more targeted at those who have been exiled from here than posters like you.

With that said, an honest question.

I know you are low on numbers this year, but I doubt you sign less than 20. Either way, do you really think that Mullen wouldn't take the other 3 Callaway players.

Breeland Speaks has blown up lately. He has offers from you, us FSU, SC, and Ark. He is a consensus top 16 player in state.
Ronald Walker made a big impression at The Opening and is a consensus top 20 player in the state.
Dayall Harris may be the most questionable of the Callaway 4, but he is a consensus top 11 player in the state with SEC offers.
Rod Taylor needs no explanation.

With the focus you guys have put on instate recruiting in Mullen's tenure, is it really a 4 for 1? Are you suggesting that your coach would only take Taylor? That's hard to believe.

Now allow me:

1) I hate you
2) Anybody who half-*** keeps up with recruiting knew this was a OM/Bama battle and Taylor had no ineterest in MSU from the beginning. Once Bama had the 2 OG's commit recently, it was obvious what was going to happen
3) Taylor is a huge get, no denying that. What I can't wait to see is Callaway's results on the field this year. These guys were all on that team last year, and their record was 5-6. How is that possible if all 4 are legit SEC players?

Would take Speaks and Taylor no doubt. Harris and Walker, not this year with these #'s.

I still don't think Ole Miss is beating MSU in recruiting pound for pound. Sorry to deflate the ego. I think we have a more talented roster top to bottom.

Not familiar with Jackson, MS or Memphis, TN recruiting, aye? For Merlin, he's just trying to keep 'em away from Bama.**

Being this is a message board and all, it is obviously my opinion. It's just that considering neither have a State offer, I can only assume. Sorry to have hurt your feelings.

Where are Walker & Harris projected to play? We've got a lot of young depth at WR and DB, especially when you consider current commits.

We should take Speaks all day because we need some DL in this class. We've got 14 committed - I say we need find two more DL and another LB. I really don't see us signing more than 20.

Harris projects as a WR.

Ronald Walker is a big safety right now. He could stay at safety, but a lot of the scouts think he will bulk up and play OLB. In scouts rankings, he moved up from #90 to #33 S in nation after an excellent showing against the nations best at The Opening. 247 and 247 composite have him at #40 in the nation. ESPN has him as the #36 OLB in the nation.

A couple of points on this pickup:
1. Rod Taylor is a big get for any school
2. Callaway has not been good to MSU in general
3. We would definitely take Taylor and Speaks and be "woolly" about it. We would probably take 3 of the 4 if we had the opportunity including Walker.
4. If you looked at our early offer list, then you will note that for some reason this year, we offered more out-of-state players and less in-state players than usual. I don't know if this is because of perceived leans by the top talent or because the top graduating talent in MS may be down slightly this year.
5. Stars are indicators, that is all. The stars have been shown to be errant at times or the kid doesnt develop or has off the field issues. Character and growth potential become important factors when evaluating Juniors in high school. One example is the DL that we have offered that also has an offer from Alabama with a 247 rating of only 81. Does anyone really think that Saban is offering a scholarship to a DL that he feels is a true 81 when he can get 90+ players? They see something in the kid, probably growth potential.
6. I like our class so far, we are meeting team needs. I agree that we need another DL or two, at least one more LB, and another kid or two with blazing speed (4.4 40-yd times) that have the potential to grow. Other than that, take the best available.
7. If we get Aeris, one of the DE's from Canton or Alabama, Jackson and possibly the QB prospect then I will be really pleased with this class. I don't care what the stars say.

Missed one:

1) We don't have room to sign all of his terrible teammates just to get him. Ole Miss is signing half of the team.

Good points.

On #2...you'd think Callaway OL coach Otis Riddley would be a help to you all.

On #4...it may be because (or at least I've read it repeatedly) that your big dawg camp hasn't happened yet. I know its been said that many of your instate guys are offered at this camp after evaluation. If that's the case, I don't know if that's a practice that can be counted upon in future classes.

it sounds like the board needs to be reminded of times that winning crootin' championships is not a strength of msu, its developing talent. until we start struggling at both crootin' and development, im not going to get my panties in a wad. sure, it would be nice to have the luxury to have elite classes, but we have serious disadvantages in this, one being having boosters that cannot successfully pull of a hundred dollar handshake without getting caught. until we can at least accomplish the commonplace elementary basics in sec recruiting, we should be happy with the 3*'s we are consistently putting in the league.

either way, our 4* guys (especially at skill positions) havent exactly panned out over the last decade....we have had more success getting the solid 3* guys and fine-tuning them. its not like we have many options with the salary of assistants so low. until we make a serious investment in that regard, its not gonna get much better imo.

Every team that beat us last year-- and they were all ugly losses-- killed us in recruiting last year and are beating the sh*t out of us again this year. I know, it's only June, er-July but can we reasonably expect to do better without recruiting better? That said, the ones that got away so far, were the "team special" Callaway group where NO ONE should have been surprised we lost Rod, and Buford who practically lives in Oxford. From this point forward however, we can't afford to be skull dragged in our own state. If we do, Auburn will get on its feet again, and we will be struggling to go bowling--even toilet bowling. "Developing better" when you lost the recruiting battle is just another way of saying "we have to work with what we got." Frankly the "develop better" excuse doesnt float when you are talking about several different coaching staffs. What-- its in the water supply? This is the SEC West--that wont work long. We have to start winning the in-state recruiting battles going forward.

Yep, and how anyone with half a brain cant/wont/doesnt understand this is beyond me. Dan is not getting it done on the recruiting trail, period. We are falling farther and farther behind as the other 6 teams clean our clocks in recruiting. Do you guys think it's going to get easier when Gus and the new guy at Arkansas get established?

It's just bothersome that the new staff at Kentucky came come in and recruit well right away, as has Freeze, as has Franklin at Vandy. That's the tier we are on, and those guys are way ahead of us at this point. Evidently MSU is the only place where you have to build the program up before you can have any recruiting success. We're on Mullen's sixth recruiting class and we don't seem to be recruiting better than we did with his first.

Can anybody determine last year's class ranking if you remove Donald Gray and Cord Sandberg? Has to drop us into the 30's I would think. It just seems that after six recruiting classes, we would be ahead of where we are. Go ahead and insert all the cheating/Bracky/disadvantage cliches.

One other thing, the fact that's it's July and we're behind is even more bothersome. The summer is usually where we hit our peak. What about January and February excite you from a recruiting standpoint? Those are traditionally the worst months for our signing classes. You think this will be the first year we close strong without Ole Miss in coaching transition?

I'm saying you know as well as I do how much things can change over the course of 7 months... including the entirety of a football season. I'm going to wait until signing day to cast my judgement on this class because WAY too much can happen between now and then...

Yes, but when have they ever changed positively for us? In 2010, after beating them two in a row and going 9-4 to their 4-8, they still flipped our commitments, including one who was basically assaulted by one of their fans. The season won't affect our recruiting in a positive fashion at all. Winning 8 games and another Egg Bowl won't flip Taylor, Buford, or Hampton to us.

Maybe Dan is exerting less effort now in an effort to finish stronger? Seems like summer is usually a good time for recruiting under him.
