I’m 5’11” #225 so no shorty and yea I don’t look friendly I guess but I never bother anyone and always and super happy to help with questions, which I often get.

Like I said probably a little old lady was “scared or worried” 🤷‍♂️.

I definitely carry a gallon but it’s not a plastic jug lol, it’s a metal canister type deal.

There’s actually an amazing pic where I happen to be dressed exactly like the “lunk” they have a red circle with line drawn through him. Short blue shorts, red cutoff, gallon of water. Pretty hilarious.

I’m friends with the guy that runs the one in Georgetown and I showed him the pic and he cracked up and said nah you’re always good here.

They’re usually great, I think this was just a humorous one off.

It’s not their target market. PF want as many lazy people as they can get to pay for the cheap membership and eventually quit showing up, while still auto debiting their dues, cause they’re going to “get back to working out soon!”

I’m fascinated by PF and hope that somebody does a documentary on the place someday.
This is factual.

There's going to be d-bags wherever you go, and the gym is no exception. However, you'll still meet plenty of nice people at the gym who would be glad to offer help or assistance. Or.. people who wont bother you because the vast majority want to be left alone. but no one on the gym floor is laughing at the old guy lifting 1/4th their weight.. or the group of ladies walking on the treadmills.

If you're intimidated by people with vein-y muscles who lift more weight than you, then the gym isn't the place for you.

Again it goes back to my comparison. Do we shame the people who spend more than us at a designer store, simply because we feel inadequate? And then do we kick them out?

I trained a guy once who said, “Can we slow down? I don’t like sweating and I’m starting to.”

I looked him dead in his soul and said “The gym might not be your thing man.”

The biggest guy at the gym is the best person to ask for help. Usually super nice and they wouldn’t be jacked if they weren’t passionate about it.
This times 1000. They’re usually super happy to help and friendly. Bigger doesn’t mean, meaner.

There’s so many people using terrible, pointless form on exercises/lifts that it kills me not to go give them some pointers but not my business.

Do you feel like machines help eliminate this issue for those less knowledgeable?

Yes 100%. If you have no idea what you’re doing, please don’t go straight to free weights, way more likely to get injured.

Start with machines, figure out the weight you’re working with, figure out form and what and how you’re working those muscles.

Hire a trainer for a few months to get comfortable, gain adequate knowledge of how to use equipment, etc. A trainer you’ve paid for and scheduled time with will make you much more likely to get to the gym than if you don’t. Do this for 3 months until it’s a routine.

Our PF in Alexandria KY supposedly has 5400 members (I literally see the same 50 people every MWF). You start doing the math... I'm surprised the stock hasn't performed better.

Side note: I always hit PF while on vacation (which is a nice benefit). When I was in Little Havana recently, I was the only non-Hispanic in the whole gym... it was hilarious to hear nothing but Spanish being spoken... like being in Cuba lol.

I honestly think it’s just a genius marketing strategy by PF, and has resulted in getting a clientele that will both not put a lot of wear and tear on their equipment and not be too demanding with purchasing and maintaining expensive equipment. It’s a really smart business model

I loathe going to PF but it’s so convenient sometimes. Can’t get mad at their model though. Mine is free with insurance at least, I don’t pay for the membership.

Are there no other decent gyms near you guys?

We actually don't have too many PFs in the area, and often, there's a gym closer to where you live, whether it's the YMCA, Best Fitness, Crunch, or a mom and pop gym. And then there's all the crossfit gyms that are in old warehouses.

However, our premier gym is called Vent. They used to be Gold's Gym, but then some local businessmen bought it out and changed the name. They are really nice though.. Pools, basketball courts, rock climbing, studio rooms, and all the machines you could want. Clean, good classes and perks, like tanning and hydro massage. The only downside is that if you want a REAL weightlifters gym, you might have to find something local.. but the DBs go to 150, so it's plenty good for me.

There are other good gyms here but PF is free. I can always go to the gym Proof where I was Director of Training and I love it there, it’s dope. The problem is EVERYONE there knows me and I they. That’s a great community vibe that I partially helped usher in as it was how my gym in KW was.

The problem knowing/friending everyone is that if I go there to workout everyone wants to say hi and ask questions about this or that lift. Which is AWESOME, I love that. But I also want to get my workout it without 26 conversations/interruptions in between.

Mr. Hollywood over here..

I imagine that does suck. I never thought something like that would be a bother.. but it's funny when you make gym friends how easily you can get to talking for 10 min on the floor.

Vent is $60/month for me.. all gym access and free guest pass anytime.. but basic memberships start at $20. Honestly, it's worth the price. $10 for PF isn't worth the hassle. And I think the ones by us are fairly grimey. The cleaning guy at my Vent location is in mopping the sauna twice or three times a day. Keeps it spotless.

Comes with the territory when you are running a gym.

I was talking to this guy there that I hadn’t seen before introduced myself and asked him what he does. He said I run “xyz” gym whatever it was. I said oh cool what’re you doing here?

He said I can barely get a lift in without being interrupted at my gym. I laughed and said good to know I’m not the only one. So I think it’s common with gym managers.

I could get a membership at another nicer gym but 3 memberships is a little much lol.

I have 2 permacomped memberships in KW one in Lex and then PF, I think my insurance pays for LAC too because it did in Louisville but haven’t tried it.

How to you get a permacomped membership? I imagine through connections and doing this for a living.

The way I see it.. if spending a little more keeps me healthy.. and keeps me going to a gym I like and have a good relationship with.. then it's worth it. Your health is priceless. Spend a little money now to keep you upright when you're 70.

Yeah people will say they can’t afford the gym or training and then go out to eat/drink 2-3x a week. I would say you can afford it you just aren’t willing to compromise other things for your health. Usually they would shrug and be like basically yeah. Truth hurts times.

The permacomps are two from gyms I worked at and the owners and I are very good friends still, the other is I was super helpful with this guy Calvin who was 28 and bought a gym, knowing NOTHING but how to workout.

So I helped him out to get going (not working mind you just suggestions and ideas so he didn’t feel like he was drowning), I was a member there for years before he bought it. He was very appreciative for the help and said you’ll never pay another membership fee here.

$100/month is even worth it. That’s one less night out and you can lift every day. People just don’t how their priorities straight imo.

Work hard play hard and whatnot.

I would strain every muscle in my body and go into convulsions but never ask somebody for help at the gym. Generational thing, I guess. Similar to asking for directions. I might as well tuck my junk up and read school books to kids if I am going to run around the gym asking for dudes to give me some advice. Not happening.

You know what’s worse than asking for advice? Being the guy that is doing every other exercise completely wrong and looks like a fool, but what do I know?

Shoot, I talk to my other trainer friends around the country and we all ask each other questions all the time.

Hey Rogue,

Why do u continually make stories up in GYERO? Does it make you feel better about yourself, bro?

You are quickly approaching Catfagbgky levels of cringe.

TIA and DIAF

Rogue is spot on...if you have questions about a piece of equipment or if you are doing an exercise wrong....seek help from someone who looks like the Rock. They are generally very helpful unless they're a total d-bag in general.....however, don't interrupt their session, but wait until they are resting and just ask if you can talk to them when they get done.

Brodeos, fixed my sauna this morning finally and about to to hit the contrast therapy with the cold tub. It’s beneficial either way but they say hot then cold is the best which sucks. Would be much better the other way around. I will hop back in the sauna after or straight to the hot shower.

Burned around 2500 cals today with Leg Day and incline walking. Was at Planet Fitness and had 10 plates on the smith for Deads. Counted and the gym only had 6 more plates in the entire place lol. Sad.

I'll give you that I never felt like screaming at a PF employee and telling them I can lift more than everyone in the gym, you've got me there.

Well I've been training (not lifting) for about 45 years now. Started early because I was intent on joining the military as soon as I hit 18, which I did. I never went to the gym for the same reasons you do, I think. I never lifted heavy weight of any kind as maintaining my flexibility and power have always been my reason for going. Low weight and high reps is all I do. Not one ounce goes to trying to build mass but yet I am big and imposing by grace of good DNA.

Good for you that you workout and collaborate for what it is you do. One thing I guarantee you, though. You wouldn't call me a fool to my face no matter how big you think you are or even if you can lift more than everyone in the gym. You'd look at me and you'd know. There's something in a man that tells him when he's about to make a life altering decision and some bulked up bodybuilder douche confronting me in the gym and calling me a fool would definitely be making a life altering decision.

“Low weight and high reps is all I do”

That’s great Brody and thank you for your service, but you’re not lifting for “power” as you said then. Low weight high reps isn’t how you build power.

And BRO, don’t tell I wouldn’t call you a fool. If you’re fool, I don’t care hope how big a fella you are. 😃

So you walk around the gym calling people idiots to their face that aren't exercising the "right way" and you scream at PF attendants and tell them you can lift more weight than everyone in the gym?

Impressive. Not a complete douchebag at all. That's going to work out well for you. Going to take one guy on the wrong day to hear you, then you're going to be a new man. Plenty of time to think about it until the casts come off.

Look, you're an unbearable jerk. Simple as that. You need to spend a little more time considering what a complete jackass you've revealed yourself to be here before you wind up getting hurt by somebody that your gym muscles don't impress. Somebody like me.

Hahahaha

I’ve never done ANY of that. I said I’d like to tell people they’re doing it wrong but literally said “not my business”. I’ve never said a cross word to any employee at PF. I’m pretty sure that was pretty clear in my post.

God, you’re a dork. Head back to the political thread bubba, that’s where you belong with all the other yelling momos that repeat themselves over and over repetitively. Jesus man.

This thread has been cool people telling stories and talking about stacks and lifts.

And if you don’t think I’ve kicked *** and had my *** kicked you’re wrong. I’ve been punched in the nose and I’ve punched people in the nose. It’s been 20 years but I’m pretty sure my wrestling and Jiu Jitsu would come back relatively quick.

Of course political guy comes in and tries to make it an argument. It’s what your kind does. Now be gone and let us gym rats and meatheads do our thing. Nerd.

I can probably outlift most anyone at a PF. That’s not talking ****, that’s being honest. Not impressive by any means compared to a real gym. But you coming in talking **** in this chill thread is dumb as f**k. You’re likely a loser.

Not ONE person has talked **** in here. Please either go away or let’s talk about how big & tough you think you are and your stack bubby.

Bro, I’ve never said I wanted to fight anyone. Please stop. We’re just gym bros talking about things. I don’t want to fight anyone. I just want to talk about gym stuff.

I know you think you’re tough. That’s great, we need people like you. You’re one of us. Just relax Brody.

Muscles don’t mean tough for sure. But I’m not one to play with. If you want to meet at a jui Jitsu place and tumble, I promise it’ll be fun.

Redcon1 is doing a nice protein deal. Full BOGO on all protein products. So a pack of 12 Protein bars is just $17 each if you buy 2.

I may have mentioned this brand before, But I really like their deals. They always have good sales when you stock up, their stuff tastes good, they offer a lot of freebies and merch. I don't know how it ranks in terms of lab testing, but I think it's one of the fastest growing supplement brands over the last year or two,
