Alot of people say they wouldn't mind having golden if he dumped his friend and DC. What about a pairing of Ron Zook and golden. Zook was an excellent recruiter and has years of experience as a DC. Currently the Green Bay ST coordinator. Didn't do great as a HC but had some good years. I think he'd be a good DC.

RUAlum, please ignore that kind of mocking commentary. Nothing wrong with throwing out possibilities.

While I don't like Golden, Ron Zook has a pretty good resume as qualification to be our DC (I'll pass on him as a HC candidate). ADs had to see something to hire him as a HC at Florida and Illinois. Why wouldn't he want back in to the P5 as a DC? B1G on top of that. And probably cheap.

Something for the AD/HC to look into.

Zook was a very good recruiter. Many coords don't make good head coaches, but can still be gr8 coordinators.

BTW, there are 0 100% sure fire can't miss candidates in play for RU.

Every potential candidate will have one of the following:
No P5 HC experience,
Not gr8 recruiting,
Not gr8 game day coach,
Had losing season,
Lost to rival or top 25 opponents

We will take a gamble on any coach.

Pair Zook and Golden? I'd rather pair a Merlot with a pile of dog poop. I haven't forgiven Zook for some not-so-nice comments he made about RU after he lost to RU in 2006. Golden? He has to lose the tie. Unless he pairs it with a coach shirt a la PJ Fleck. Never been a fan of the tie-wearing coaches, except maybe Lombardi and maybe Landry.
