When is this guy gonna finally start? I can't imagine he will pitch again this weekend. Our rotation needs to be Mitchell, Fitts and Bracewell. Let Woodruff and Hudson go midweek.

I think it's about flexibility with him. If we could ever get to a point where Woodruff could go 5+ innings, Mitchell could see added work at times other than Fri night.

I don't have much hope for Woodruff at this point. I simply cannot imagine a world where he gives us 7+ innings a start.

Eh, be patient with Woody. He has the stuff, just needs to be confident and put it together. It's not going to be fixed in one outing.

Ross is fine where he is. He's a big piece of what Thompson wants his staff to be.

Starting Friday nights isn't going to help him put it together. He needs to be doing it in less pressured situations, like a couple of innings out of the pen. Then we'll see where he's at in a months time.

Short answer: Never.

He's our best/most proven arm out of the pen, and he's a completely different look for opposing hitters. No matter how Woodruff, Fitts, Bracewell, or Hudson pitch, they all can hit at least 88 with their FB, 90s for Woody and Dakota. Guys see that, and then you bring in a lefty with a rubber arm and a low 80s FB with ridiculous movement on every pitch and it throws off their rhythm. That's what makes him so valuable/good. Ross is a fantastic arm, but he's not a starter. Ben deserves a shot at a weekend role with how he's pitched lately (obviously not this weekend), and Woody really only missed one pitch last night. Command is always the last thing to come to a pitcher after an arm injury, but he's made good strides and he still shows a lot of promise.

Why is this so hard for some of our fanbase to understand? Every year we have people claiming that Ross should start. The dude is now 17-0 as a reliever....don't 17 with it.

Today is exactly the reason I wanted to 17 with it. Ross should have been starting since game 1 this year.

I'll eat crow on this one

Ross did a phenomenal job on the mound today. As for starting since game 1... well hindsight is always 20/20 right?** When you have a guy who is one of your most talented pitchers coming off elbow surgery and is still throwing 94+ and having great bullpen sessions, you want to put him out there. Unfortunately for Brandon the command just hasn't been there. Ross showed (again) that he's a fantastic arm, but it does concern me that he threw 129 pitches today. His body isn't the "workhorse" type, and I just hope that many pitches without rest doesn't hurt him later on

Looked great in today's game. I thought the decision to start him was a bit questionable, but after today's outing, I'm confident he'll get more starts.
