Go Cubs!

Gotta have good relief/closing pitching in the post season. When their only relief pitcher was Chapman, you knew they were going to be looking for relief pitching this winter.

Unfortunately Soler was injury prone and his bat wasn't consistent enough at times. He can be good for the Royals. He has potential.

Bummer. Wade Davis is nails in the bullpen. Looks (and sounds) like the royals are ready to unload some salary this off season :(

Bummer, yes. But I do trust the Royals leadership. We've needed some pop in the lineup for a while, and he's 7 years younger than Wavis.

Good move for the Cubs assuming Davis's arm holds up. Soler may end up being a very good player but Cubs had to make some room in the OF.

Royals won't be done yet. They now have 6 outfielders (Gordon, Cain, Soler, Dyson, Orlando & Burns. 1 or 2 are gonna go soon. Sounds like Dyson has drawn interest from the A's. Should find out soon.

I love the Wader Cyborg. That will never change. I have watched almost every Royals game the last 15 years. I can tell his delivery is a bit different since his first DL stint last year. I hope he has a healthy career going forward. It just seems like he is due for arm issues after all the work the last few years.

Good trade for the Midwest Yankees. Soler was just a guy, and Davis is an established closer.

Frankly, once they wrapped up so much money in Heyward, he now has a contract that no one will trade for. It makes sense to get value from Soler and they needed a closer since Chapman was obviously not in their long term plans - though the guy was pretty instrumental in helping to get that World Series.

Good move for both teams.

His cutter is devastating and his fastball is insane for hitters to find out where it is going. My favorite part of Wade Davis, though, is the way he covers his eyes with the tip of his hat. He's a freaking wizard. Gonna miss him but he's getting older by the day and I trust Dayton Moore.

I loved Davis, too ... but he's what - 31? This really is a brilliant move, in my opinion. They'll have Soler for four more years, and his best days are ahead. Davis' are in the rear view mirror. He might have one more really great season ... but he was already breaking down a little this past season.

I'll really miss Wade, but you gotta wonder about that arm? It seems like all closers have a shelf life and this might end up being a great move for the Royals. I know a lot of people don't like Hudler but I think "Wader, check please" is one of my favorite calls of all time.

I liked Wade too. I think it's win win. Get Soler to DH and keep him from getting injured.

People assuming Soler is going to DH full time are going to probably, initially at least, be wrong. The Royals are going to give him every chance to be the everyday right fielder. They've already said that Rusty Kuntz is going to be working with him to improve his defense. Time will tell if it works, but that is the plan out of the gate.

It's not like the Royals have been playing defensive specialists in right field recently. We have seen Orlando, Dyson,Rios,Aoki, etc. and Soler is a much better bat than all of them..

Dyson rates as a plus-plus defender in both CF and RF. Soler rates as below average. (Albeit in a smaller sample size)

Soler wont be a black hole in RF, but he would be a clear downgrade defensively to Dyson.

And also a downgrade compared to Oralando, right? If Soler can hit 25+ homers next season I'll take it and let Rusty work on the defense! One concern I have is that I hope he fits in with the "team first" attitude the Royals seem to have developed over the last few years. It seems to make the whole greater than the parts.

Midwest Yankees? Haters gonna hate. The Cubs are one of the most system-developed teams you could hope to find. A ton of their young stars are guys they drafted and brought up. The contracts they have on young dudes like Bryant and Rizzo are laughable compared to what they'll make the next time they ink a deal.

There's no salary cap in baseball. If you're not paying big money to get a couple pieces that put you over the top, you're not getting over the top.

Dyson is fast, but sorry, that doesn't make him a plus defender, same with Orlando.

orlando seemed pretty bad on defense to me...terrible angles, dove for balls he had no chance of catching. soler is a lot of the same, but with a better arm.

You can believe what you want, but the fact is he has measured as an excellent outfielder over the last four years. His elite range makes up for his occasionally suspect instincts, even if it looks frustrating at times.

It's true that his bat is well below average, which keeps his playing time in check. (Although Soler's injury history suggests he wont be playing a full season either) And I agree that Orlando is nothing special.

To be clear, I support this trade because of Soler's potential and years of control. I just dont anticipate it to be a short-term upgrade if we also ship off Dyson.
