Am I misunderstanding the current standings and remaining schedule, or does the team actually have shot at a regular season championship here?

Yes - thats true. Although because OSU (one point ahead of us), MSU, and Michigan (one point behind) have all played 5 conference games to our 6, they have a bit of an advantage.

Yes! with games against UMD and OSU in front of us. we totally have the opportunity to be regular season winners.

without following enough college soccer, however i'm not sure if they do a playoff or just go by regular season.

Sure looks that way, although we've played one game more than OSU. We play OSU Sunday so that will show whether we have a fighting chance.

The national rankings have us 7th in the B1G, even though we beat Indiana, UMich and Northwestern, all teams ranked above us. It's probably because we lost to PSU and Wisconsin (in OT), teams below us. Our other losses though were to #39 MSU and #11 'Cuse, so I'm not sure why we're ranked so low. Here are the B1G national rankings:

15 Ohio St.
24 Maryland
35 Indiana
39 Michigan St.
57 Michigan
61 Northwestern
70 Rutgers
75 Penn St.
135 Wisconsin

They do a playoff, but the records I checked denote both the reg season and playoff as distinct champions.

Good luck to the team - bring home our first conference championship!

awesome! that's also how MLS runs it. Supporter's Shield to regular season champ and MLS Cup to Postseason champ. Both go to CCL... i'm getting off topic, but I love soccer, and have had Chicago Fire season tickets for years. I should try to make it out to an RU-Purdue game sometime.

Pretty unbelievable that 4 B1G schools do not have Men's Soccer teams.

All 14 have woman's team.

Why unbelievable? It's called Title IX. It's the reason Rutgers has a women's crew team and dropped the men's. Pretty sure that Rutgers still has to find a way to add more women's scholarships and/or drop scholarships on the men's side.

Other B1G universities dropped men's soccer to even out scholarship levels.
