Greg as HC and Mario as OC would be a homerun. Not impressed with Mario as HC at FIU. My second choice would be Matt Rhule. In my opinion. Mario would jump with some success at RU for a UF, UM or FSU HC offer down the line.

How much does Mario make as 'Bama's OL coach?

Increasingly sounds like Butch Davis is going to be back at Miami

Or Richt. Or Strong.

I wasn't in love with the Mario hire in 2012 (although I would have preferred him over Flood) but the guy has worked on staff for the best program in the land the past 3 years and I'm sure has learned plenty from one of the top coaches in the sport (college or pro). He has ties to REAL POWER 5-level coordinators, did not run a straight up pro-set offense at FIU and was the national recruiter of the year last year. Not that I want him or Greg back necessarily, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd put my money that it is Mario, not Greg, who has learned more from his trials and tribulations the past several years and will emerge a better college head football coach the second time around. Despite the fluff piece on Greg where he was doing all the introspection, talking about Pete Carol, etc. I don't think Greg 2.0 will be much different than Greg the Original. Just my two cents.

Having lived through the Shea Years, I can tell you that is not true.
Yes, we have had a worse head football coach than Flood. Terry won ELEVEN games in 5 years here.
We actually have done much worse than Flood.
How many would Flood have won if he started with a 4 win team and an empty roster like Shea? IMO, they were pretty similar, just had different starting points and different resources. I mean we just lost, at home, to a coachless, QBless 2 win team.

Mario Cristobal, who replaced Stoutland as the offensive line coach, will be paid $475,000. Stoutland made $395,000 last season. Cristobal, fired as Florida International's head coach after the 2012 season, made $522,183 as FIU's head coach in 2012.

-- Offensive line coach Mario Cristobal: $515,000/year through 2017 (added a year, salary up from $500,000)

Perhaps you misread my post or weren't around back then but TERRY SHEA WON ELEVEN GAMES IN 5 YEARS AT RUTGERS. That takes special talent Flood wasn't in Shea's class.

Perhaps you misread mine, we just lost to a 2 win team with no QB and no coach. The difference between Flood and Shea is Flood had Schiano's recruits for a few years and Shea had a team full of what was left of Graber's recruits after everyone failed out.

I was here for Shea and Flood's teams were better, I just don't think that is because Flood was better, simply that it takes longer to run a team into the ground when you're taking over for Schiano than for Graber.

And you totally missed the point of his post. If Shea took over the same team that Flood did, the one that Greg built, the one that played against CUSA/AAC teams in 2012, Shea would do no worse than Flood did.

Financials make sense with Mario ... Position is P5 and at least double (even triple or more) what he made at Alabama and FIU.

If flood was the one that took over for graber I am not so sure he would have done better than shea . If anything Shea was a more respected football guy and became an OC in the nfl even after Rutgers .

Total BS.
Flood inherited an outstanding Recruiting class (Schiano's best) , a 2012 Team with 7 NFL picks, and support staff/facilities that Terry Shea could only dream of.

I fail to see the appeal for Cristobal. He was 20 games under .500 as a head coach at FIU. I don't put too much into his time at Alabama as a line coach.

Please no to Cristobal. Go get Richt, or even Greg, or Rhule. But I don't see the appeal with Mario.

I hope not. I fear Cristobal would be Flood part 2. He was a total failure as a HC at FAU and is only an O line coach at Bama.

Shea had shortcomings as a head coach, but I will chime in:
1. RU#1fan pointed out Flood inherited Schiano's best recruiting class, and outstanding support staff and facilities
2. Shea's budget was barely half of what Schiano got in his FIRST year at RU

If money is no object hiring Christobol would be disappointing. I like Fleck, Golden or Rhule.

Why someone would want Al Golden coaching their team is beyond me. The only way any program should give him another shot is if his contract explicitly says that D'Onofrio can not be on his staff.

Do you guys really think you could get Rhule?

BTW, what is the obsession with Richt? He has arguably done less with more than any coach in the country.

SO WHAT...IT WAS PERSONAL....SEE GREGS FIRST 3 YEARS...REMEMBER...FIU..WHAT DID HE INHERIT.

He inherited his own recruits his 6th year on the job and went 3-9. 6 years is a fair amount of time to be tested.

I agree with the others, Cristobal sucks. He couldn't hold a Sun Belt job. We could go to the same league and take their top coach if we wanted. If this news is true, this day to me is worse than when Flood was hired. At least we could make an excuse about the recruiting class and all that.
