No real research done on this - but, a few of the Memphis crazies in my office are freaking out and are under the impression that Pastner is leaving and will be replacing Norm Roberts as the next HC at St. John's.

This would be hilarious, if true. Can he take that recruiting class with him 2nd round of 17-ing over Memphis?

Somebody probably forgot they were actually playing St. John's this week and when they heard the words "Pastner", "Saint John's" and "Norm Roberts", they freaked and assumed the worst.

Josh tip-toed around it with a bunch of coach speak. I bet if St. John's comes calling, he leaves.

We are talking about St. John's, I don't think he'd leave for anything less than a big time school in a big time conference (St John's doesn't exactly yell big time to me, although there is no argument about the Big East being solid every year), and that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

They were a final Four team in the days of Lou Carnesecca, Chris Mullin, and Walter Berry. It'd be a great place to coach.

Mississippi State was a Final Four team once upon a time too. If being in NYC makes it so easy to win at St John's, why won't a who's who of coaches seek the position? Because it ISN'T easy to win at St Johns.

Memphis is a better job.

to throw at recruits, er, I mean Pastner. Plus, they play their home games (or at least home conference games) at Madison Square Garden. That's going to be attractive to recruits. With Pastner's AAU connections, I am sure he could get some talent to join him there. You're right that it isn't easy to win there, especially because the Big East is such a tough league. But it's one of the two premier basketball conferences (ACC). NY is such a big stage, also.

Those guys last year were going to Memphis due to Cal. Joe Jackson, Tarik Black, and Chris Crawfordare Memphis natives and won't be heading to St. John's to follow a second year coach. Memphis would be able to hire a much better coach this year with the hometown kids more likely to stay in my opinion. St. John's might have a lot of money, but if Pastner splits, the Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Texas etc. will make St. John's look like pocket change for those recruits.
