Because life isn't fair, taking one snap on Saturday put him over the limit to get a medical redshirt (participation in >20% of games in a season).

That is awful luck but I think it might be appealable. However, more to the point, you can't play "hero" with a possible back injury; extreme caution going forward is advised.

Peace

If true, stand by for the "QB injuries made it impossible for ANY coach to succeed at UK this year..........so we need to give the HC three more years" narrative.

Don't know about that but more importantly what will be heard from rival recruiters telling potential QB recruits "don't go there, they can't recruit OL to protect their QB." That's a very real probability.

What is the rule on medical redshirt?

I believe it's that you can't play in more than 20% of your team's games. If that's the case, it would be 2.4 games (out of 12). I don't know if they round down or up, or by quarters. So he may not be ineligible for the medical redshirt. And if the injury is serious....Best wishes to DB on a quick and full recovery.

don't think you can get a medical redshirt/6th year unless you already had to sit out a year due to injury? he was voluntarily sat out in 2014, not because of medical reasons. And I'm also not surprised, taking the word "back" and mixing in the initials "MRI" ain't ever a good thing.

NavyCat88 was kidding (maybe), but lets go all in on the worst case scenario:
1)Barker done for year
2)UK finishes with losing record

Does the fact that he lost his starting QB after basically 2 games & forced to play backup QB for 10 games change anyone's already negative "he's gotta go!" opinion on Stoops? Because if he were fired you can damn betcha the media will cry foul & say it is unjust to firing a coach who lost primarily due to the injury of his starting QB. And I'm not sure they wouldn't be right....

or maybe we catch lightning in a bottle & Johnson can somehow get us to 5 more wins....

I was wrong (I think) above. 30% is the standard per the NCAA ... so still potentially doable for Drew.

https://web3.ncaa.org/lsdbi/search/bylawView?id=20655

It looks like it is 30% or 3 games whichever is greater. So he could be eligible.

"In team sports, the injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport) or 30 percent (whichever number is greater) of the institution's scheduled or completed contests or dates of competition in his or her sport."

If true...Does it mean that Gunner Hoak will have his redshirt removed? Or will they go with the walkon from Cincy?

It is 30% but since he's already taken a redshirt year he would have to petition the NCAA to get a 6th year of eligibility and in his case....because there are no extenuating circumstances his likelihood of getting a 6th year are slim.

If the rumors are true I feel bad for Drew and hope he completely recovers. If it is career ending I wonder if it would have any impact on Mac Jones possibly "reflipping"?

This couldn't be any more of a fact. You all, think stoops sucks after his QB went down in game 3? Y'all are pathetic. I'm more than ready for the stoops apologists to start saying these things. More than ready. I've never seen a man earn more excuses than stoops and his following of stoops apologists. Just sad how many people accept failure.

"This couldn't be any more of a fact. There are some who will agree with Barney that this is the reason to give CMS another year. I disagree."

See how easy that is?

You dont have to be an a$$hole with every post, especially when 90% of the board agrees.

Sounds like he might have a ruptured disc. I've been there done that to go along with multiple fusions. If it is a ruptured disc it can give you really bad pain down your legs to go with back pain. It was about 3 months and i was back to normal after the surgery. So that would end his season. As long as he doesn't have other issues, he should be fine for next year. That is if the problem is a ruptured disc.

Where's the "if he was hurt this summer why was he playing all" bunch?

He probably said he was fine. Lingering back injuires or chronic back pain if thats what it is can be an on again off again thing. Can feel great 95 percent of the time...and then it bites you here and there. Probably bit him hard this week and probably first time he's had a true workup and diagnosis of the issue.

C'mon dude......I'm not one to go shouting "troll!!" all the time. But after your posts yesterday, where you basically said any combination of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Dahmer and Donnie Osmond are OK so long as we win, and now this. Makes you go, hmmmmm......
If you don't get banned for this... What does it take?

Jones was crushed by nasty UK fans on social media. Why would he rethink his decision?
