Rumor on Gene's Page that Russell will play this weekend...

I don't see it happening either. He is still recovering from the Flu and was actually home in Meridian last weekend - didn't even travel with the team to Nashville.

I don't see any reason to use him unless Lee and Relf get hurt. Save the red shirt if we can.

I may be wrong but I just do not see this happening. I think that the decision was made by the JSU game. I just do not see anything that would change Mullen's mind right now unless Mullen thinks Russell could be the game changer for the whole season.

We need any kind of passing attack right now and we just don't have it with Lee or Relf. There's no way he can be worse than either.

If at some point before the 7th or 8th game Mullen thinks that Russell has progressed to the point he's better than either or both of them, I feel sure he'll play him.

But now im kinda torn. Tyson has thrown ok, and Relf has thrown worse than ok. I dont trust either of them throwing an accurate ball deep. If Russell can come in and stretch the field, I say play him. I know hes got a cannon and is accurate, so at this point I say give him a shot. We cant rely on Dixon to get these big gains against the better defenses in the SEC, so we are gonna have to go downfield to move the ball. Who knows what could happen. I hate to bring this up, but look what Wes Carroll did as a freshman in 2007. He managed the offense, and didnt make stupid mistakes like MSU QB's usually do, and took us to an 8 and 5 season with a bowl victory. If Tyler can come in and mange the game, I say give him a chance.

He wasn't ready to play by the JSU game and we didn't know if Lee or Relf would take over the job. We also didn't know how quickly Russell would progress. So it made plenty of sense to not play Russell and keep open the option of redshirting him. If he passes either Lee or Relf (or both), then it would make sense to burn the redshirt at that time.

The only reason not to play him is to save him for later. And why would we do that? So we can be some kind of juggernaut in 4-5 years?

I say do whatever you need to do to make the players you have now better. There's no saving for a rainy or better day with this roster.

Play him 1-2 series per quarter or whatever Mullen wants. Pretty sure Mullen knows what he is doing here.

that he has made great strides in practice over the past month. Enough to turn him loose? I don't know.

If Mullen is going to put him in a game, it's going to be soon. I don't see him playing past the 6th game.

If he has proven in practice he can stretch the field vertically then play him. Don't see this happening yet though. Lee can throw side to side and that's it and Relf can't hit **** consistantly.

I don't see Russell being our qb in year 3 or 4 on a mullen ran system, i could be wrong, but i would rather know this year than wait and play him next that way we could recruit a qb. I think mullen will recruit a qb either way, but at least get him on the field and see what he has. He may have 'IT', but i know FL wasn't recruiting him

I can see mixing in Relf 1 or 2 series a game just to change pace and make other teams having to prepare. In order to burn the redshirt, Russell does not need to be swapping series with Lee.

He is just covering his *** in case he does play... He is a redshirt unless Lee or Relf gets hurt...

Bump Lee and put Russell in to give us a more volatile passing attack. Russell is the real thing and will be much more of an assett in the 2 qb system.

here in the Golden Triangle I've heard a few rumblings about this in the last week or so. Particularly that he probably would have played last week at Vandy if he doesn't stay home with the flu.

But who knows?

We are not going to win many games having to run the ball on 3rd and long.

Screw a redshirt. Teams will tons of talent and good depth redshirt players. When your as thin on talent as we are, you just play the best man, no questions asked.

Who really knows what the next 3-4 will bring? Hopefully we can land another solid quarterback in the next year or two, and not having Tyler for that 5th year will not be that big of a deal. I don't think we should assume that Cam Newton is coming here either. If Newton is not here next year, Tyler Russell will see alot of playing time, regardless of what people say about him "fitting into Mullen's scheme". I would rather him be experienced going into next year.

We are going to needs some help stretching the field for sure. we may be ranked among the top rushing offenses but LSU is ranked among the top rushing "D's". If we are going to be successful against them we are going to have to be able to pass vertically as opposed to what Lee can do.

They said the same thing that you just posted. They said that Russell was supposed to go last week, but was sick.

We all saw how great their rushing attack. Don't forget about the X factor Ron Cooper. With Cooper on the other side anything could happen.

Let Russell RS and develop and get stronger. The only way I could see him playing is if Lee and/or Relf got hurt.

There probably won't be a whole lot of passing going on, but I don't believe this rumor at all.

I actually think Henig and Wes Carroll are better than both of the quarterbacks we have on our team right now. Sad to say but it's true.

I am starting to feel that we need to go ahead and let him play. Lee well bless his heart. Relf bring in a good change of pace but that post pattern he through against Vandy may have been the worst pass I have ever seen. I have seen QBs over and under throw but he missed him by 15 yards to the left. I guess that if a guy is double covered that is where you want to miss because there is no way they would expect the ball to be thrown there. I think that we need to win this year in a bad way to build on recruiting. More than likely he will be the man next year so he may as well begin playing.

Hell, USC & Ohio State have both started true frosh QB's here of late thinking they gave them the best shot to win. I think wins kind of have time value like money...wins now > wins 4 years from now.

Think about what happened with Leak and Tebow at Florida...if I am not mistaken....Mullen played Tebow the same way...waited till around the 4-5 game...got him in certain situations and then played him off and on the rest of the year....the next year...he got handed the ball from the start...and the rest is history...that is what I see happening here..Lee is a senior, Mullen knows Relf is BY NO MEANS the guy for the future...and Russell needs REAL game time experience THIS year....I think he plays this week or next and several more times throughout the year getting ready for next years big season. (sorry for the caps...just trying to make my points clear)

Is that both those teams returned veteran offensive lines and ours sometimes look like they couldnt block a team of girl scouts running a dime package defense. Tyler would be running for his life

We have only given up three sacks (all of Tyson Lee) and two were in a 3 play stretch at Vandy at the end of the first half. On both plays, Vandy brought the house and Tyson failed to get rid of the ball. We're also running it very well. I think the biggest improvement I have seen so far this year on offense has been from the offensive line. I don't know whether it's due to Hevesy, health, or just a year of maturity, but we are definitely better there this year.

If he can do anything with a forward pass, its a very good thing. We have not shown much in the way of having a passing attack.
