As you suggest, I think it's a combination of Hevesy, health, and a year of maturity. It's also a product of having guys in the right position, like Saulsberry at G instead of T. Our scheme also helps. Crxxms was asking guys to do things they just flat couldn't do, like block a potential All-American DE one-on-one with no help as a true frosh.

Tyson Lee is 1000 times the passer that Wes Carroll is and Relf is a better runner. Other than being a pretty tough guy, Henig had no redeeming qualities as a QB.

Hell, USC & Ohio State have both started true frosh QB's here of late
I really wish people would stop using this comparison. Look at OSU and USC's roster, then compare it to ours and you have your reason why USC and OSU can start a freshman quarterback and we don't. To compare us to USC or OSU in any way is just utterly ridiculous.

As for the topic at hand, there's no real reason for playing Russell this year. Putting him in isn't going to magically change our season around. This season will likely have the same results regardless of who our QB is so take your lumps with Lee/Relf and save Russell to have a more significant impact in the future.

Carroll was 1000 times the better QB than Lee though, if that makes any sense. The problem is that Lee has no balls. He is scared to throw the ball, he is scared to run the ball. That's why he is terrible. If he is going to be our QB he is going to have to make a decision and go 100% with it.

but for this level of football, he can't make the necessary throws. Lee can and usually does when he has time. You can have Carroll and I'll take my chances with Lee.

Henig and Carrol were the worst QB's to possibly ever start for Mississippi State. And yes I am including Kyle York. Letting Russel play could hurt our chances with C. Newton. I don't know if I like that.

He was actually decent as a freshman, then was obviously coached down by our esteemed QB "coach" his sophomore year.

Carroll was nothing special for sure, but there is no way that you can possibly make a list of the worst quarterbacks to play at State without putting Lee on that list.

This is spot on. We need wins THIS year, not 2 years from now to build on recruiting. We have to give ourselves the best chance to win games and if Russell gives us a better chance at that, then screw the redshirt. Tyson Lee didn't help his cause very well with the brain fart at the end of the first half at Vandy. That was simply inexcusable. Bring on the young gun!!

this year in order to be more ready next year.

Want to talk about a QB abyss just imagine next year without Russell getting some experience this year.

Play him and play him a lot.

As shown by his "almost" national record of passes without INTs, and his play calling, TD drive in Memphis. And the kid had wheels. Remember how he regressed the summer leading to his sophmore year? That was a constant theme that happened with ALL of State's QBs under Woody. I'd love for Carrol to be here being coached by Mullen.

Henig just blew. I'll give you that.
