but the firstrecipientof the capital campaign money will be a new basketball arena, and that's not a rebuttal to anything MSU. That's clearly in rebuttal to winter weather conditions. The football expansion surely has some MSU-related reasoning, but what football program doesn't strive to stay ahead of somebody else in one capacity or another? We've had fans complain for years that the stadium needs redesigned concourses, the plumbing sucks, all four sides have a different appearance, etc. The complaints haven't changed, but those listening to them have found a little more motivation to act on them. If it takes you guys having some success in order to move things along here, then I'm fine with that. If I can't have somebody thinking ahead right now, at least taking what I can get is better than nothing at all.<div>

A not just in Athletic Facilities. Universities are building all kinds of crazythings to lure in students. My old firm just finished a pretty cool zip line course for Ga Tech. Just cause, no real need for it. They just thought it would be cool and be a fun thing to show new students.

I could give a 17 less whether you expand or not. We are expanding based on the demand that we have. We know we can put asses in the seats when we expand. We are sorry that we find it amusing that your school would expand a stadium that isn't even full every saturday, good or bad season be damned. You had 38,000 people at a game in 2009....one of the best seasons in fifty years!!1!!1!

With a two year construction time, it will start after next football season. Something about having it ready for the 100 year anniversary of Scott Field. I'm not taking the time to quote it, bmarcello tweeted it a few weeks ago if you care that much.

things are going well. most of us who want to see the NEZ enclosed said the push should have been made 2 yrs ago. i will say that as has been noted, when we did the 1st expansion we weren't selling out and when the SEZ was planned and done we weren't. personally i question the need as of today but "planners" generally say if you wait till you really need it you've waited too long. all i can say about ours is nutt better start winning again. i don't expect much this yr but i needs to at least not be so awful i don't watch and 2012 needs to step up again.

west side look like the east. That would add a few thousand seats, luxury box revenue, and symmetry (although the east was built a little too small so maybe double up the east to include pressbox). Then do the nez. I find it funny that so many state fans believe that OM can never be good in football again.

I included 2009 for a reason. Coming off a Cotton Bowl appearance, and with your highest pre-season ranking in decades, you drew almost exactly the same as 2010.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Basically...Palmeiro Center -> Football Facility -> Practice Fields

Is that it will sit between the Palmeiro Building and the practice field. So you go out one side onto the field and out the other and into the IPF. I don't think Dan has much interest in a nicer IPF, he really hates the thing. He only uses it when there is weather.

In the four home SEC games in 09 we averaged 61K. We only hit that once last year against Auburn. We also sold 6k more season tickets in 09'

And you start talking about other programs having "****** football". Have you not paid attention to the past 10 to 12 years?

See, its not about winning. Its about buildings and recruiting.

What the 17 else could be more fake about your 17ing school?

We have and it is becoming more and more obvious which program is rising above the ashes and the one that is becoming a part of the ash pile.

We will never be the largest in the SEC, so why bother?

I would rather pour money into upgrades to the facade, amenities, and luxury seats than to have 95,000 full seats that look like it does now on the upper west side.

I may be the only one here, but I'd rather have a first class, well designed 65K stadium with high ticket demand than that monstrosity in Knoxville.

And this was even after Nutt's infamous back to back Cotton Bowls. The highest average attendance in the last decade was in 2002, at 57500 (95%). Never since expansion has the total attendance been close to full capacity but yet they want to expand. Adding seats at a time with little demand, increases the chance that
they potentially go unfilled, leaving even more empty seats than there
have been the past few years.

Where as MSU had a 99.8% capacity in 2010 and a 97.6% capacity in 2009 (coming off one of the worst seasons in recent memory). The teams have roughly had the same attendance figures for all home games in the past few years, yet one stadium had been full and the other has had on average 5000 empty seats. Doesn't seem wise to expand on something that currently isn't being filled to full capacity, unless you are just trying to one up another school.

when you cannot fill up the current one is a little over the top and was only announced as a response to your rival school close to breaking ground on an expansion for an actual demand for more seating at a football game and a growing waiting list. If VH expansion demand was needed, then that is a different story. Boone and Co. should be more worried about putting people in the stadium they have before they create more invisible spectators at football games. If they want to have a larger unfilled stadium, then go for it. I just know how bad I hate empty seats at any of our home games. That is all.

We hit over the 60,000 mark plenty. Ultimately you're mad because it keeps you from catching up in the capacity game for whatever that matters. That's fine but don't pretend like we can't and don't fill up our stadium. When we have a bad season or a **** opponent, sure we have some empty seats just the same as you do in the same circumstances. Don't be a dumbass.

There are many times I know we could easily have packed 70,000 plus into the stadium. With construction costs down and college football popularity only growing, it makes sense to do it.

You have a 2 phase expansion plan in the works to I assume get you to a similar capacity. Our plan to do so isn't any more ridiculous than you planning the same.

do you think Pete and Co have been doing this offseason. The new football assistants he hired doubled our assistant coaches wages from last year . He hired the president of the largest marketing firm in Memphis to head up marketing. He's then created 15 new jobs related to marketing. The 100 improvements in 100 days, the promotion videos that come out every Friday, the billboards and commercials... He's trying to fill seats and I like the confidence he has that it will work and by 2014 we will he back to where we need to be. Where we need a bigger stadium. It will be '14-'15 by the time an expansion is completed. I don't think any of you will argue that '12 will better than '11 and '13 better than '12. I know you would hate anything we do whether you agreed with it or not, and I'm sure you assume building a basketball arena that's been needed for past two decades is all driven by Dan Mullen, but this is all needed and will improve our athletic programs greatly.

The last 10 years we're 5-5 against you. The last 12, we're 6-6. And 8 of those years were the worst 8 consecutive years in our program's history. There's ONE program on this state that's headed in the right direction.

We have Texas, GT, Clemson and UF coming up in the next 5 to 6 years. We sold 50,800 season tickets in 2009 and more than 45,000 coming off a 4-8 season. With the big upcoming games I don't think 70k seats will be to many. We have around 16,000 students on campus and only give out 7,500 student season tickets. Our enrollment went up by 7.3% from '09 to '10 and shouldincrease again this yearwhich will lead to an increase in students and that will allow us to increase the number of student tickets. We have had 60,000 or more 15 times since the first expansion while that number could be more we had something called Coach O happen. Only the LSU game in '07 and the Bama game in '05 drew 60k while he was coach. Winning has a way of bringing people back so it is simple win and they will come.

We sure could have used another 7,000 seats this year instead of in 2014.

Jesus. This is not a response to your announcement. This project, the basketball arena, and other sports upgrades have been in the discussion/planning phase for over a year now. This coming from someone directly involved with planning for how to go about fundraising for the specific projects.

The timing may make it seem like it is being thrown together as some sort of response effort but it has been on going for some time which is why they're just now having the formal launch now with details of the plans to kickoff a multi-sport campaign.

As much as you want it to be about you, it isn't. It is about planning for the future. Season ticket sales have been going up and we've had more demand for luxury suites and this is in the works to address both those issues.

And I too think it's funny how apparent it is that some people on here seem to think we will never be good again and that MSU will never be down again. It's laughable.
