Rumor/word on the street is Freeze thinks Mullen runs a finesse program?

My wife & I were invited to her parents house (wife & her family are bear fans) to watch the MSU-Arky & tsun-LSU double headers. So I reluctantly went knowing I was going into the Lions den of snide comments and arrogant remarks.

Pappy-in-law continues to praise the hogs and rail on Mullen and was enjoying the first half when the hogs were in it. Then in second half, he shifts to being more and more quiet (it was funny as hell). At the 45-14 mark, he leaves the room to start cooking, LOL!

In the LSU game - Both In-laws are happy throughout the game today, praising Freeze, his offense and already predicting OM would win the game and win the Egg bowl. After the late LSU punt-return, I literally thought they were going to cry (funny as hell). As reality set in after the hook and ladder play and that train-wreck game ends, ole Pappy-in-law pops up and says this gem: "Hugh Freeze has been scouting MSU since January 1 and been preaching to his team everyday since January that Dan Mullen and the MSU assist. coaches run a finesse and soft program."
He goes on to say he heard from the om elite rebel club members that quote "Freeze has told his players every day since January that deep down ole miss has more heart, more passion, more guts and more desire to win the Egg bowl this year, the MSU winning streak WILL end this year and Mullen will NEVER win another Egg bowl on my watch"

Might all be ******** but who knows, it was funny has hell though.

It's pretty obvious that Mississippi plays with more effort than us. We'll out-talent them for sure and we'll work hard enough.

I am not sure if this is true, but I do wish we would play more physical. I think that is a big missing component with this team. We have a great QB and execute fairly well, but I wish we were a little meaner. Ran the ball more like the LSU running backs.

You couldn't say Mullen is a finesse coach. Look at Relph. We pounded the ball.

Hugh is a dork, trying to fire up his fans...rightfullly so, but it's not ccurate. We are less physical this year, becaue of personel.

the 2012 version of State football is a finesse team- there is no hiding it...we'll be a finesse team in 2013 also...then when Dak takes over, we'll go back to beating on people and running the football

I'm actually more worried about getting the defense back to playing physical than I am the offense.

Not ragging you, but I, personally, can't stand it when people say that we should play more like teams that aren't in the SEC. You say we should play like Oregon and Bo Bounds says we should play like OK State. The problem is that stuff doesn't work against upper level SEC competition on a consistent basis. You must play physical and be able to get 3rd and 2 by running the football if you are going to be successful in this league.

The SEC isn't a big play finesse league. It is a get first downs and move the chains league. Any mention that MSU should copy or play like a program that isn't in the SEC, just doesn't fly with me.

Hate to tell you but the defenses physicality is a bi-product of the offense it faces everyday in practice and seeing how we all can agree that this team is more finesse than physical I tthink it's safe to say don't hold your breath this yr or the next.

It's cyclical. Spurrier was probably the most successful coach from 90-00 in the SEC running the fun n gun. Those Florida teams were all finesse on offense. Tennessee under Peyton was pretty finesse as was Ole Miss under Eli and Arkansas under Petrino.

You misunderstood me. I'm not saying we should play like Oregon. Daddy-in-law claimed MSU was "finesse" as an implication that MSU is weak. I'm saying, "fine, if you want to think we are finesse and weak, go play Oregon."

I agree that the SEC is a smashmouth league. Whether up the gut or spread, it is smash mouth. And we will smash the bears in the mouth (or kick them in the nuts) nest week.

So that gimmicky offense of Freeze's isn't finesse?? What the 17? I agree that our defense needs to man up and get physical in a hurry

heard he gets 100K for every SEC win and an additional 100K if it is MSU

I'm still hoping Griffin being fully recovered changes this.

Still won't exactly be a physical team on offense, but at least with Griffen running the ball we have one skill player on offense actually hitting people, rather than just getting hit. I like Perkins, but everything I've seen since the Bama game makes me want Griffin to get at least as many carries as Perkins does this year and I could see him being the primary back next year, although not by much at least as far as carries go.

Yeah, I think I want Perkins touching the ball as many times as possible against Ole Miss.

Only arrogant bear fans would ask their son-in-law over and make comments like that. It is just a sporting event - family is more important. I am a big State fan, but I took off my State gear before taking my daughter and her boyfriend out to eat last night after the 2 games - he is a big OM fan and had to sit thru the LSU game. (I enjoyed it a the end, but I am sure he did not.) If my in-laws acted like that, they would be watching the games alone - I wouldn't go. (Or next time invite them to your house and act like they do - see how they like it.)

If tMSU is finesse, then the university of ole miss is positively ghey. Not "gay like the positive Hollywood portrayals like you see on TV nowadays" ghey, but totally poofey, flaming, flittering around like a bunch of twinkletoed pansies ghey.

Funny. A win aGAINst us is double what a win aGAINst any other SEC school is worth. But they pity us and we are irrelevant. Obviously, Dan is living rent free in the collective minds of the entire Bear Nation.

and why do you feel that way? If our defense was playing consistently I would

somewhat agree with you but the fact is we struggle on defense against the things
they do well. If Mullen pulls this thing off I will be surprised as I have very little confidence
after watching both teams all year long. It's going to come down to our defense.

Their defense doesn't do anything special except play very hard and they have done a good job of applying
pressure at the right times. If we play our game on offense we should be able to score and score often.

Like the Arkansas game it will probably come down to mistakes and turnovers.

Perkins owns the Bears souls ... just check the stats of the last 2 egg bowls .....like a fat chick sitting by the telephone, Perk can't wait for this game to begin

Gah, I was down on him but I love watching Griffin pound that football. He has changed to a more decisive/northsouth/aggressive approach. I really want to see him get a lot of carry's against the bears. that chunky boy has some jets too. I do like what perk brings as well. I guarantee you those big oline boys get a boost when they see griffin smashing folks on the 2nd and third level falling forward. I would run Dak too, I love seeing that big sucker run it. Mullen will have it all worked out. he has always had us up and ready to play for the bears. We're are going to need J. Boyd and the ends charged up too. Contain that Jeff scott run. I just want to see wallace get bombed when he keeps it. Uh watch for the hitch and go boys. If we can rattle wallace's cage early Brunetti is not a real threat.

Right on the mark here.

This is a good point. And why don't fat chicks have cell phones? If they did, they wouldn't be sitting around all the time and could lose some pounds. But they just sit there, twirling the cord to their phone - waiting for it to ring. And there's pizza boxes everywhere!

That's why they're going to lose. When Perk's phone rings on Saturday, he's going to explode.
