Not really looking good at this moment either. Decision date and time coming from the Georgia side, meaning he apparently told them and not us.

Fingers still crossed on this...

Not true, Rumph apparently contacted our sites as well. He may be leaning UGA, but he also could have watched Tyler play on Saturday and decided thats where he wants to play. If so, why would he delay an announcement to us?

Likely Georgia. Aaron Murray is touting he is coming back......

This sucks, because we really need these JUCO guys to neutralize the talent gap. Dan's got to land some of these guys, especially more of offense. Done well on defense.

Gotta think that's a huge

miss if true, with what we are losing. I would hope that in year 5 we could start getting these guys. That's one complaint I've really got.

Gonna suck next year that we have the best passer in MSU history as our QB....

our entire OL back in tact but no real dynamic receivers with any experience left. Rumph could have at least been here in the Spring and added a big target. I think most of the other JUCO receivers we are in on are May graduate.

Quay Evans? Denico Autry? Kalio Moore?... You act as if we COULD have the possibility to get every single one of our recruits.

It's because he's an instant impact JUCO at a position where we have a hole.....

Every reason in the world for him to come to MSU, but he still doesn't.

We're never going to beat Georgia, Bama, Fla, LSU, or Bama for recruits they really want. Has nothing to do with Mullen

Robert Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, and Joe Morrow will be every bit as good as what we are putting out there this season.

Agree that RJ has really come on and MJ, once he's fully healthy, should...

Robert Johnson, Malcolm Johnson, and Joe Morrow will be every bit as good as what we are putting out there this season.
be a good receiving TE but that's about all I feel confident on right now. Lewis has not developed this year like I thought he would and right now Morrow is not contributing at all. Now I never thought Morrow would be a huge factor this year but I thought he would at least be a factor. Right now, IMO, going into next year we have the Johnson boys and that's about it that we can count on. Lewis, Morrow and Sanders still have a LOT to prove plus we NEED some incoming JUCO options. Sort of wish we would have redshirted Heavens this year if he would have been willing to do so.

We're gonna be at least as good next year as we were this year at receiver. Especially with a year under Brewster.

He's the best ever because he's by far the #1 target of the most prolific passer in the history of MSU football. But let's not act like a 5'11 senior that finally had one good year can not be replaced. If Tyler stays healthy for 12 games next year, no doubt he finds someone that will catch the ball. I just hope it's more than one guy next season.

Losing 50 catches, 800 yds and 10 TD's hurts no matter how you spin it. Nobody on this team is anywhere close to Bumphis.

Autry was that, and I would argue that he was an even bigger commodity considering his offer list.

We get players, even JUCO impacts, but trying to act like Mullen can pick a kid and convince the same 19/20 year old athlete to choose him back is rediculous. Saban, Miles, Chip Kelly, Richt, and Fisher are more seasoned than Mullen and at more desirable programs and they can't even do that but a fraction of the time. See Autry (Saban, Dooley ((hahahahaha))).

Agreed. I don't think many realize just how good he is. It's hard to put up those kind of numbers when defenses are keying on you because none of your teammates are real threats, no matter who's throwing to you.

He also spent three years with one of the most erratic passers in school history. Until this year, his career highlight was "getting in the way" of a ball overthrown by 15 yards in the 2009 Egg Bowl.

Bumphis is good; more years with a good passer would have made him even better. Just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Rumph is from South Carolina

Every reason in the world for him to come to MSU, but he still doesn't.

and Georgia is about to be a BCS team that runs a pro-style offense and has produced a first round pick WR in AJ Green recently. I hate to say it, but those are some good reasons for him to go to Georgia.

I would be really surprised

if Rumph is our only JUCO WR target. How many are Dec. grads, I don't know. The important thing is to get one. Obviously, it would be ideal to get one in Dec., but even if we get one in May, Tyler and Dak can start throwing to them on the side and building rapport.

I am not saying we are going to get Rumph, but Rosebowl did a story on him this afternoon, and he used many of the same quotes he used in his MSU visit story to describe the school he is going to commit to. His quotes sound like he may be leaning towards State.

I accept that I will be disappointed if he chooses Georgia, but I don't think this is as over as some are saying.

What makes you think at this stage we can do that?

All of those schools have what we have and then some. Add to that the fact some of those schools have double the budget we do and way more national clout than we do and it's difficult to outrecruit these guys.

Go look at the Top 15 classes on Scout right now and tell the two schools who don't belong. I will run it down for you in order: Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, TAMU, UGA, LSU, Bama, Ohio State, Florida, Auburn, Texas, UCLA, Washington, MSU, and Florida State. Obviously us and Washington don't belong. The other 13 schools either come from giant states that pump out tons of prospects or they have long prestigious histories. In most cases, it's both.

These schools are bigger, richer, and more prestigious. But somehow people think Mullen should just be able to will these high profile kids to MSU over schools like UGA, FL, and Bama. That doesn't make sense people. Wake up and realize where we are in the pecking order. Mullen having us 14th in recruiting right now is a minor miracle in and of itself. That shouldn't happen considering how we stack up against the other schools in the Top 15. We aren't a top 15 program and we don't have Top 15 facilities. But Mullen has had us in the Top 15 in the polls in two seperate seasons and had us sniffing the Top 15 in recruiting last year. We may get to that mark this year.

Mullen has outperformed what we should be capable of in recruiting at this time. We don't stack up with these other school with regards to facilities, money, and location. We won't be able to legitimately go toe to toe with those big schools for a while. But Mullen is slowing getting us there. We've got more high profile guys interested and we are finally becoming a place where kids can see themselves succeed in college and even at the next level. Mullen is turning it around and he deserves the credit for what we've been able to do so far. Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.

I was critical of Morrow earlier in the season, and I agree that his lack of apparently getting open or getting catches has been worrisome. However, he is a good blocker which gives me a lot of hope about what he can do once he is more experienced. Blocking is an effort thing, and if he gives that kind of effort for blocking then he should be successful assuming he has enough natural talent. I have been a little disappointed this year hoping we would have a big receiver threat, but I am not ready to give up on him, especially after seeing him give that effort on Nick Griffin's touchdown last week.

I'm not

talking about getting top 10-15 classes. I am just saying we need to start bringing in our top targets. Especially at a position where it is needed.

I would agree with this but you better clarify or the nitpicking police will be out in full force. I think you mean the top targets who we actually have a chance with, and spent alot of time recruiting. Cam Newton comes to mind. C.J. Johnson as well. Not talking about pipe dreams here. There's a reason we've had trouble on or around Signing Day with the big names. HOWEVER, the staff did really well in 2012 and you have to acknowledge that. They closed that year out big time.

IF we get him maybe Rick Ray can get his services as well......

Averaged over 18 points and 6 rebounds a game in hoops as a high school senior.

Big time programs get bluechip players when they want them.

He may be overrated, but it sucks to get beat in a head-to-head recruiting battle. No matter who it's against.
