Russ Mitchell says we lose to A&M because they will run 90+ plays

Russ Mitchell just gave the first valid reason I have heard this week as to why A&M will win. He says we don't have the depth to keep up with them if they run 90+ plays. This is a valid point, and if they run that many plays, then we will most likely lose anyway.

So I guess this game comes down to us being able to sustain drives and get some 3 and outs on defense.

The problem with hurry up offenses, and Dan has spoken about this, is that you better have depth on defense yourself, because if you don't your defense will be on the field all day because your offense doesn't keep it long enough.

I'm willing to bet you can say that for any team, any game

I remember hearing something about Gus Malzhan never losing a game at any level when he ran more than 85 plays. Or something close to that.

But yeah, if they run 90 plays we're screwed. But if we run 90 they're screwed.

They can't run a play when they don't have the ball.

Their offense thrives on wearing out the defense with a lot of snaps. How do you solve that problem? Move the ball on our side with methodical drives that eat clock. See first half of UT game. If we are effective moving the ball Saturday, we shouldn't be in any rush to get to the end zone. Take your time and let the D take the field fresh. If we can get a few stops with the D having fresh legs, we should be in great shape. If we don't move the ball well when we possess it, aTm is going to wear us the hell out and it's going to be a long day. Simply said, our offense will be our best defense Saturday.

Exactly my point. It doesnt mean we can be weak on defense. But we will burn clock. one way or another.

My guess is that no snap in the 1st 2 quarters will happen before 10 seconds are left on the play clock for starters.

Secondly, we wont be doing many plays to the boundaries unless absolutely necessary.

Finally, our defense will not play to their offensive strength....namely their line. We will make him stand in the pocket with any pressure coming from the outside.

I expect to see us play, if not line up in, a 3-4. One of the linebackers will always be a hybrid DB.

Cover 2, which drives me crazy, will have to be the call to allow us time to read and react on the linebacker spot.

We'll give up some yardage by design. But he wants to run, he going to take some hits.

They ran 94 plays against LSU

LSU couldn't sustain any kind of drives in that game. They kept going 3 and out and giving the ball back to A&M quickly...

A&M will run 80 plays or less against MSU on Saturday. Probably closer to 65 honestly.
