A writer on Gene's broke down the QB position with strengths/weaknesses, etc. He also provided these projected 2010 statistics. Any thoughts??

Relf:
Passing 189-of-297, 2,175 Yards, 16 TDs, 8 INTs; Rushing 74-630, 7 TD

Russell:
Passing 46-of-74,450 Yards,4 TDs,3 INTs; Rushing 20-30,0 TD

I would absolutely love for that to be our QBs stats...we would win some games that's for sure...assuming we have RBs that our producing.<div>
</div><div>Ideal QB and RB stats for us to have a winning season next year in my opinion would be this:</div><div>
Relf: 2,000yds passing, 14TDs, 700yds rushing, 8TDs</div><div>
</div><div>Ballard: 800yds rushing</div><div>Elliot: 500yds rushing</div><div>Conner: <300yds</div><div>
</div><div>To me that would be stellar and could put us anywhere from 6-8 regular season wins.</div><div>
</div><div>I hate projecting stats though.</div>

Relf will have at least 120 carries this season...I also think Relf's passing attempts will be in the 235-240 range

Russell's rushing stat looks about right

completes 64 percent of his passes and throws for 2175 yards and 16 touchdowns, I will be surprised.

I will be even more surprised if the backup throws for 450 yards in addition.

Keep this in mind. If Relf had that kind of season:
it would be fourth all time single-season for yardage, behind Marier, Smith and Taite.
It would be the MSU record for completions and blow away the MSU record for completion percentage
It would tie the MSU record for touchdown passes

All while splitting time with Russell. Relf would be all-SEC if he did that.

I think Relf will be fine this year (his rushing projections could be low - he could be an 800 yard rusher in my opinion), but he's just not going to be a 200+ yard per game QB.

He had like 250 last year, I don't see him adding 2,000 yards to his total.

I think Relf will be doing good to get 1,500 yards through the air, but another 1,000 on the ground. Thats still a hell of a year for an MSU QB

I chuckle my way through all of this guy's work. His last piece had "(a player to watch)" after almost everybody he mentioned - complete with the paranthesis.

Now he's got Relf having the best season ever for an MSU QB. Can't wait for the rest of his position breakdowns.

if we have stats like you or the OP have stated. No way in hell we get those numbers. If Relf has those kinds of numbers it won't matter what our defense does.

Turn up those INTs and lower the TD number. Those numbers would give Relf an over 100 passer rating.

For comparison, here are Vince Young's college numbers:

<table style="text-align: right; text-indent: 1em;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr style="background-color: rgb(221, 221, 255);"><th rowspan="2">Year</th><th colspan="5">Passing</th><th>

</th><th>Att</th><th>Yds</th><th>Avg</th><th>TD</th></tr><tr style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><td>2003</td><td>84</td><td>143</td><td>1,155</td><td>6</td><td>7</td><td>
</td><td>135</td><td>998</td><td>7.4</td><td>11</td></tr><tr style="background-color: rgb(221, 221, 255);"><td>2004</td><td>148</td><td>250</td><td>1,849</td><td>12</td><td>11</td><td>
</td><td>167</td><td>1,079</td><td>6.5</td><td>14</td></tr><tr style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"><td>2005</td><td>212</td><td>325</td><td>3,036</td><td>26</td><td>10</td><td>
</td><td>155</td><td>1,050</td><td>6.8</td><td>12</td></tr><tr style="font-weight: bold; background-color: rgb(221, 221, 255);" valign="top"><td>Totals</td><td>444</td><td>718</td><td>6,040</td><td>44</td><td>28</td><td>
</td><td>457</td><td>3,127</td><td>6.8</td><td>37</td></tr></tbody></table>

Young's 2004-05 year Texas went 11-1 and won the Rose Bowl. Hell his TD/INT ratio is worse than what you've projected for Relf.

Hope f'n springs eternal!

Cue Bullfraud and his f'n sock-footed eggbowl.com ******** predictions.

Cue Rosebowl and his pathetic record of season forecasts and recruiting outcomes.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but sacks count as rushes in college football. So I agree Coach, Relf will have at least 120 carries. That is only 10 per game. 8-9 rushes plus 1-2 sacks would be 10 carries per game.
