Russell is going to be a good pro. McCarran is going to be a horrible pro.

What???

McCarron vs UT
17/22 306 yards 4 TD, 0 INT

Russell vs UT
23/37 291 2 TD, 0 INT

They are both good QBs. I'd say they are very comparable...no way Russell is better by a "decent amount"

I don't care waht the sats say, I'm talking eyeball test.

He's not as good. The palyers around him are 5X better.

2 long passses were basically thrown up for grabs...should have been picks.

I tend to agree... I wouldn't say he's a lot better, but if you put a gun to my head and said pick one, I think I would take Russell.. they were comparable prospects coming out of high school.. Scout had Russell slightly higher, Rivals had McCarron slightly higher.. Russell looks better to my eyes though

Uh, yeah....right. Dude, come on man. I am as thrilled and giddy as a school girl too, but lets don't get crazy here. I think you would be stretching it to say they are even but to go and say Russell is better by a decent amount....Naw, nope....wrong.

You're acting like McCarron has never put in a clutch performance. He's beaten much better defenses than Russell. I'm not saying McCarron is better but to say Russell is hands down better is premature.

I'm tlaking NFL talent...not college. Russell is better pro prospect, IMO.

I don't care that McCarran is a "winner", by playing for the team with 5 stars all over the place. TeBow was a "winner", as was Danny Wuerful...again, another "winner".

It sounds like a lotta people are deferring to McCarron just because he plays for Bama.. like I said, they were almost equally rated coming out of high school.. I haven't seen anything that makes the comparison ridiculous

I would absolutely say YES..........I don't think there's

any doubt if TR was their starting QB they'd have the same record........

I simply asked the question.. I honestly don't know.. and he has beaten better defenses, with better teammates

Think about who is developing each of them... Mullen has a reputation for developing QB's... Saban's rep is more on the defensive side of the ball... I think Tyler is better all around. Can't quite put my finger on why, maybe just more mature/seasoned? AJ is coasting on the backs of the all-around Bama athleticism... just IMHO.

also, AJ had one TD called back, threw 3 passes out of bounds intentionally and had one dropped (of 5 incompletions).

I won't say AJ is better than Russell, but he is certainly the better "known quantity" of the two... at this level, for sure...

This puts AJ likely in the 2nd round and Tyler in the 3rd/4th round....

I agree. Russell is doing what is needed with "lesser" talent than what McCarran has around him. Neither Bama or State has played top-notch defenses yet this season, so I say it's a fair argument.

Two long passes tonight that AJ threw were up for grabs type passes. I think Russell has a stronger arm, and is better in the pocket.

I don't know who's "better" between the two... I think both teams would still be undefeated with either at QB. but, I do know this, AJ is rated higher by NFL scouts and he is the more "proven" of the two at the college level... that being said, it would not hurt my feelings at all if Bama had Russell as their backup.

They have just seen more of McCarran. they have been # 1 for 2 yrs straight. Of course, I think Tebow is terrible too, so FWIW.

I don't keep up with MSU as much as I used to with work and all... what would you say his (Russell's) "signature win" is as a QB? I know he has had some decent numbers vs OOC/FBS programs, but what about a ranked team and/or above average defense?

That doesn't matter. What was Rothlisburger's signature win? Danny Wurfel had several of them. I'm just going by watching him throw. He has a good arm and is accurate.

I'll say it for you. Tyler Russell is much more talented than A.J. McCarron.

I disagree. Bama s qb, for the moment, makes better decisions

And manages the offense better. Tyler is more talented, and probably has a better set of skills to make himself more attractive, but he's still forcing some throws.

Ialso think Tyler does not have as good of a offensive coord calling plays.

Better Question: If teams swapped O lines would both be undefeaated...

I think not. We would not give AJ protection his O line gives him. Thus they would have a loss.

Russell is making mediocre WR's look like a bunch of Jerry Rices...

..McCarron is surrounded by NFL talent; all he is asked to do is to manage the game, & throw the ball in the general direction of 5 star athletes. Meanwhile, Russell is forced to inspire average WR's to constantly play above their heads. Russell is, unlike McCarron, constantly forced to make plays for his team. McCarron is QB for a traditional powerhouse; Russell is QB for a traditional 17up. I don't know who is better, but I do know who is being forced to carry the heavier load.
