Their news people p.o.ed FIFA. USA had a chance but Qatar had what many observers called a very impressive bid-- plus it's friendly to the European TV market.

I have read the last few months had expected England (despite the media problem) and the US to get it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see all of the 2018 World Cup played in the European part of Russia. The only reason FIFA considers Austrialia to be part of Asia is because Australia petitioned to move from the Oceania Federation to the Asian Federation several years ago for economic and competitive reasons.
