I expect a very similar game plan as today (which will upset many). The playbook will not open up until VA Tech.
Just curious if you saw what I saw today, especially given your expertise. I mentioned this somewhere else, but it looked like there were many plays where we ran the RPO between the tackles, with their ends crashing down hard, inside, and on those plays, it looked like Gavin could have pulled the ball out and possibly made pretty big yardage into the vacated zone, especially when there was only one WR on that side. Was thinking maybe we didn't want to show that too much, but will later. Thoughts?

I noticed the same thing.

I saw the same thing. I think some were predetermined. I'm positive the H in motion plays were true reads. I'm also sure that overthrow on the slant was an RPO read. I know one time Benjamin yanked a ball GW tries to pull and would have been a huge gain because GW talked to him after the play.

I don’t think Wimsatt is really an RPO QB. He doesn’t appear to have the natural instincts required. He is more like a wildcat QB with more options. But I agree that the offense would be a lot more effective if he were a real RPO running threat and could stretch the defense. His running in the second half was predictable and easy to defend.

Im pretty sure RPOs aren’t plays where the QB is a threat to run, but rather where the option is handing off to the RB or passing. that slant that Gavin overthrew looked like an RPO IIRC.

I wonder if the defensive gameplan will be to blitz more or to just drop 8 into coverage (seeing as they'll likely plan to throw it two-thirds of the time). I like the sacks we racked up on Northwestern. I'd like to see more of that.

Well you suggested the weather. Typically - games played in the rain become mostly about the ground game, right?
What does that mean… the rain should help us because unless we are all wrong we will be running quite often. Including Wimsatt.
Yep, the bettor in me tells me this game will be much closer than anticipated
Maybe…. but I think these RU players understand how much this game means plus the crowd should help. Loved playing in the rain.

Why would a ground game favor Temple? They prefer to throw the football. They only ran for 61 yards against Akron.
This
Anyone who thinks the ground game favors Temple does not know Jack about CFB.

I would agree with your argument if we didn't play them last year in Warner's first start as a true freshman and luckily walk away with a 16-14 victory. Remember, Warner had the ball at the end of the game to win it, he is much improved since then. Temple is in year 2 of a rebuild and has 50 new players. If you watch that game against Akron, they slept thru the first half which is to be expected with that many new players. I think the second half both offensively and defensively is more indicative of what you will see against us on Saturday. That is also why I believe the line is only 10 points.

It was in response to the comment that the weather does actually impact the line which had just moved from RU -10.5 down to -9.5. I thought that’s what you were referring to (since it had just happened). All I was saying was that I don’t think the line shifted in Temple’s favor do to a prediction of rain. That wouldn’t make much sense.

Temple is pretty amped up and pissed they lost last year. For whatever that is worth. Northwestern was against the world last week. That did not work out well for them. Biggest concern IMO is EJ Warner- he is dangerous and needs to be contained and put under pressure, like Cincinnati did to him last year.

Maybe. And every game is different. On the other hand, that game was played at Temple in what was likely dubbed the biggest game of their season from their fans perspective. We also committed 80 yards worth of penalties in the game, and lost Gavin early in the game to injury. Schiano clearly didn’t trust Evan to throw much, and it was quite obvious that we just were not prepared for Evan to be the only remaining scholarship QB available. That wasn’t what the team had prepared for in camp or even game week since the plan wouldve been to rotate between Gavin and Evan with Noah unavailable. All that doesn’t mean Temple won’t put up a fight, but there are a lot of factors that differentiate this game significantly. Its early, but I also believe our defense is better this year.

If that were a factor we owe many teams a beat down but that is not probable. The Warner kid will be sprinting out ….dink and dunking… then looking for the big play downfield. Stop the run game and with this LB crew I think we can limit somewhat . I do like this team.

The line dropped from -10 Sunday to -9.5 yesterday and is now at -8.5 today. Waiting for it to drop to -6 by Saturday.

This betting line is now factoring in wet weather and Rutgers past history with Temple. Time will tell if we can withstand the test of the mighty owls Saturday evening.

Think the blackout getting ruined because nobody has clear or black ponchos for the rain- this has become a factor! 😜
