Pike should be coaching his son at Sacred Heart next year. He is completely and totally done at the power conference level. His teams are so miserable I wonder if he'll take a reduced buyout to get out of town
I'd like to think he'd do the right thing and negotiate something with the school. But he's so stubborn that I think it's a pipe dream. The fact he hasn't shaken up the staff after the last two seasons tells you he doesn't think any of this is on him.

Crazy that some Rutgers fans actually paid for travel, hotel and tickets to see this team
The trip.is more about chating with fans of other teams your not even playing. I spent a good 15 20 minutes with a fan from Iowa state than a Creighton one jumped in. All because I was wearing a Rutgers visor and got to meet some real hardcore fans and characters. Good times

If there was ever a program to do it...
No way we will pay the buyout, based on how this team looks my sense is Pike is just collecting a pay check. It’s obvious no effort was put into roster construction, recruiting or basic offense and defensive concepts.

Pine is a disgrace and will hold RU hostage for every penny he’s owed.

This is going to get worse. There’s not a ton of upside here. He’ll be gone after this season. New president, new AD, no bs loyalty to get in the way. They’ll figure it out.

Very good guy no question but when it comes to what you are paid to do(win) he just doesn’t have it. His traditional style of basketball just doesn’t work.

I know the entire staff shuld take blame also but maybe just get rid of Pike and elevate Brandon Knight at this point. Maybe he will do something different as the HC similar to what PSUs interim Ks doing for football or similar at UCLA
John Wooden couldn’t coach this team and win. It is devoid of talent appropriate for this level of college basketball. Wtf was Pike thinking when he built this roster?

When a nepo-baby was arguably your top recruit, you knew it wasn’t going well.

In fairness to him he was thinking… I’m supposed to build a big ten roster with how much money?

and then he said… oh yeah I’m not meant for the big ten anymore regardless

One side note observation

it would be nice if the journalists and beat writers and contributors to this site and other media outlets are a little more subjective in their opinions of this team and stop worrying so much about toeing the line to make sure they get access to the staff

I think a lot of people on here take what they say as gospel and a lot of the hopeless optimism comes from it

Pike always had a problem coaching offense. His records were built on physical defense built over multiple years of familiarity. Now he doesn’t have the luxury of development and his record will show.
The fact that pike didn’t shuffle up his staff is a sin. There is not a single offensive minded person on his staff! We have a collection of boneheaded coaches across multiple sports that are afraid to adapt and make changes.

This is the worst Rutgers team I can remember, I’m still utterly shocked Pike came back after how spectacularly he blew last years opportunity. The guy is an utter disgrace.

For anyone who wants to tell me he isn’t a terrible roster builder and coach, is there any chance he’s hired by another program after he leaves Rutgers.
Some of us called it and warned of this and were shouted down. He is and has been so far over his head its mind blowing it has been accepted and defended.

D2 and low end mid major talent being exposed. Pike is done so please all the apologists stop.
Everyone with the Pike getting back to his roots w defense stop!

This team has no real power 4 talent!

Time to move on

Hope the young men have fun out in Vegas

No ,because Knight is responsible for half court offense which stinks.

I’m starting to feel bad for Tennessee at this point. They probably were hoping to get three solid opponents for their Non conference schedule and they get us. Yikes, we are worse than I thought.

I think the mods here and Fonseca have been pretty objective.

Carino is a clown but that's nothing new

If you had premium @Richie O who runs the site said this was most likely the worst team he's ever seen under Pike. He said 14-18 would be overachieving for this collection of rejects.

lol to those who said we’d be better than last year’s team. Guys, it’s the same type of players but without the two lottery picks. I get we’re all fans, but let’s use our brain a bit

Ahh I see we’ve reached the “they continue to play hard” part of the game. Sad we’re a high major and all the announcers can find to say about us are these pity compliments
