If we did rush for 256 yards again against Michigan and the D plays lights out and we pass for only 46 yards… I’m willing to take the bet it’s not a 31 point blowout.

Well,
We will see
It seems every game I have long periods of time thinking the offense is not so good, and this past game both the offense and defense seemed problematic
You can’t just go by the final scores as to how the team is doing, or assuming that we aren’t really fully trying at offense or defense
This game coming up will reveal a lot
I would hope that, if perchance we have a lead we don’t try to sit on it offensively, or prevent defense thereafter
We probably can’t win that way this time
We need a lot of things to go our way. Need turnovers and we can't make any. We need some explosive plays offensively and we need our defense to stop their running attack. It's a tall task but this is the best team we've had since 2014.

the "Shelby effect" is hope for the bad and try and make it look much worse.
But I won't complain, that's what trolls do and only pointing that out.
Have a nice day the RU win over VT had to put a frown on your face
but the thought of Rutgers losing to Michigan is sure to make you smile.
That's how the "Troll effect" works
Shelby hopes for good, but foresees bad. Shelby predicted a 4 win season. It’s too early to proclaim him wrong, but he did think 2-1 at this point, and Wagner and Indiana to reach 4. He did not foresee the MSU / Tucker fiasco, but still doesn’t see that as a win just yet.

It’s strength on strength for this game. I might just put a small amount on ML for RU.

We are completely one-dimensional. Granted the running game has been excellent so far and defense has been pretty darn good. But don't sugarcoat things, our passing game isn't mediocre or average. It's one of the worst in FBS, and the second worst in the P5 this year (only Nebraska is worse) in terms of yards gained. Hasn't been an issue so far because we've been able to run the ball, but if Michigan stops our run game it's unlikely we make it to 175 yards of total offense. Here's our passing rank by total yards since 2016:

2016: 122/128
2017: 125/130
2018: 124/130
2019: 121/130
2020: 99/127
2021: 114/130
2022: 124/131
2023: 126/133

This is THE number one reason we get blown out so bad playing OSU, UM, PSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc.

Be careful speaking truth. Any more posts like that and you’ll be branded a troll-fan of other schools

Realize we are a young yet surprisingly experienced team on D … less so on the offensive side… if this was a game last year we would not stand a chance in hell. The IF’s are a big issue here but something tells me Greg Schiano and his team doesn’t think they can ‘t compete . and just maybe win or surprise the betting public. This is all on Michigan to convincingly beat us Saturday. Rutgers is playing with house money. As Mr. Miyagi told Daniel LaRusso , “ focus power, make good fight” …” trust the quality of what you know, not the quantity.” I’m sure the staff is motivating these players. Michigan is very good but ya just never know.

I'm shocked to see that line. I've been thinking since yesterday that "Rutgers is back." I'm not very good at this betting stuff, though, maybe I am misunderstanding...

Silly me, I thought the spread would be around 17. I guess we'll just have to go out there and show them it isn't "same old Rutgers"!!!!!

What scares me about taking RU because of the 31.5 points
isn't Rutgers offense's ability to score but if the RU D will be able to hold the Wolverines under it if Harbaugh decides to try and make McCarthy look like a superstar because of the bad game he had against Bowling Green.
Harbaugh might just keep Michigan's passing game in high gear instead of going to the run when they're comfortably ahead,

Only thing to stop that is upset them or come close to doing it.

It’s not about showcasing McCarthy.

Michigan and RU have different goals.

Style points are important for teams with playoff aspirations and blowouts are important chapters in that narrative. For Schiano and most teams, it’s enough to win by 4. For the big boys, 40 point wins are important.

You can’t take your foot off the gas since the other top teams won’t (for the same reason).

I dunno. I look at those stats starting in 2020 and see a great HC worthy of a big raise, 70 ft statue and consideration of renaming the university after him. Has a coach ever won the Heisman ? Maybe this is the year, ain’t that right Fieldhouse Al ?

Meanwhile we're 3-0 vs all FBS teams, all double digit wins.

The negativity is unbelievable.

I admire the spirit of the point you’re trying to make, but Shelby will troll on this forever. It’s simply not worth engaging him.
The Debbie Downers and Negative Nancys of this forum are beyond annoying.

Are you saying we aren't better than those teams?
Honestly, not better IMO.

Sure, the defense is better this year. It’s been very good so far. Best defense of 2.0, yes.

But I don’t think the offense is better, I don’t think the specials are better (no Korsak or Cruickshank). And I think the conference schedule is harder.

Which of my opinions above do you disagree with and give this team the edge ?

Well, we shall see how bad we are or at least how bad Las Vegas thinks we are ? Michigan gets their HC back and their players are supermen so we probably shouldn’t expect much. Going off last season’s 52-17 beating ?

You all have to realize that the trolls have been pretty quiet over the last few weeks. They're coming out now because we're ready to go up against the #2 team in the nation and they're smelling blowout. Put them on ignore or just don't answer them and take them for what they are.

Yes just as expected there are still 3-4 more who hate Schiano but remain quiet . Waiting to tell us how right they were and how all us koolaid drinkers were wrong. It was the same back in 2004-2005 and somewhat into 2006… Rutgers just needs to keep working to the goals they set pre season.

They put themselves in a no lose situation. If we lose they can scream "See!! I told you Schiano sucks!!"
If we win they say "I'm a Rutgers man first. I'm happy we won."
