you need to stop this thinking right now. We doubled what the BIG made, we didn't come hat in hand.

stop thinking like a loser, we do ok on tv given the abomination of football we've seen at the banks

This is likely why Rutgers is playing Peacock.

The whole goal is to increase subscribers. Can't do that with terrible teams.

Fast X just dropped on Peacock.
Also, good opportunity to watch or rewatch all of Yellowstone.

Also, all the old WWF content is there.
I just rewatched the Undertaker-Mankind Hell In A Cell match.
Attitude Era was great
.

Big fan of Peacock.

All of this was easily watched through the Peacock app on my Samsung smart tv.
Will fit in nicely with Ryan Day and the HC Lanning's "Promos" screaming at ESPN analysts. NCAAF becoming old school WWF?

The academic snobs here that claim the BIG is an academic conference care .
Some can say they have an Atlantic 10 degree!
I don't see it that way and I have been an RU fan since I was seven. I earned my stripes and deserve a free, lifetime subscription to Peacock for Rutgers content as do many others on this board. 😃

It seems like there are many more B1G Peacock exclusives being scheduled than we were told when the TV contract was announced. I thought it was going to be 1 B1G Peacock exclusive, and one B1G Saturday night (NBC & Peacock) game each week.

Any of our resident TV contract experts want to explain this?

Edit - Actually the press release says that a total of 9 B1G games will be Peacock Exclusive.
I think they are on pace for many more than that number. Bret Mcmurphy's tweet above lists 6 upcoming Peacock exclusive games and they have already had several.

If you can subscribe for $6, watch the game, and then cancel, I'm fine with it. That's going to be significantly cheaper than going out to watch. Even if a friend invites you over to watch, you could spend more than that on gas.

In 2002, I paid $10 for access to ESPN+ to watch the season finale at Boston College.

For the Wisconsin game, six bucks is a bargain!

It is actually funny how many posters on this site claim to be millionaires yet can't fork over $12 bucks a month to subscribe to Peacock. I guess the reality for a lot of posters on this site is that they need to get their parents' permission to spend their allowance on TV subscriptions, I understand, not trying to mock those still living in their parents' basement.

Meh. A million dollars is the new hundred grand, these days. If the claimants aren't talking about their billions, tell 'em to get their broke *** outta here. 😀

Anyway, according to Forbes, about 10% of people in the US are millionaires. So, you know, they're not even one percenters anymore. They're modern-day serfs. The little people. Pretenders. Pikers. Pissants. Poor. Pshaw!

In fact, it gets worse. According to that unimpeachable source of all truth, NJ 101.5, NJ has the highest percentage of millionaires of all 50 states. Which clearly means if you're only a millionaire, in NJ, then you're more or less just average.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, so the reason all the NJ millionaires are whining about having to pay for Peacock, I mean other than the ridiculous name, is that they're trying to become billionaires. And that won't happen if you're just throwing money at the networks.

Adding to this - I looked it up. Some of this is from the Peacock Site, and some from B. McMurphy's tweet about upcoming schedule:

According to the press release when the media deal was made, Peacock has 9 exclusive "B1G Saturday" games this year. They also have some number of NBC/Peacock simulcast "B1G Saturday Night" games.

To date the Peacock exclusive "B1G Saturday" games have been:
9/2 - ECU v Michigan
9/9 - UDel v Penn State
9/16 - Washington v Michigan State
9/23 - (None?)

Scheduled games (unless "Flexed" to another network):
9/30 - Illinois v Purdue
10/7 - (2 games) - Rutgers v Wisconsin [noon] AND Purdue v Iowa [3:30pm]
10/14 - Illinois v Maryland
10/21 - (none?)
10/28 - (none?)
11/4 - Iowa v Northwestern
11/11 - Minnesota v Purdue

So that's the 9 games.
I guess the "Flex" option allows Fox to select any of these in which case a game would be added that would otherwise be on BTN.

Rutgers on Peacock exclusive just once.
Illinois, Purdue, and Iowa are all on Peacock exclusive twice.
Ohio State, Indiana and Nebraska not on Peacock exclsive at all.

Damn. Was getting free access up until June. I may just subscribe. $5.99 a month and basketball season is coming up. Need to see if there are any shows on there I might like.
I posted this last time Peacock came up on the boards- Free service through Xfinity ended in June, but Diamond and Platinum subscribers still receive it for free through Xfinity Rewards. You just have to go into your account and reactivate it.

I don't watch streaming-only games in any sport out of principle. The higher their streaming numbers get, the more these greedy executives will try to push games off TV and onto these obscure streaming platforms. Many NFL fans haven't given into the Sunday Ticket on YouTube thing and hopefully the NFL is losing billions compared to when it was on DirecTV. Maybe they'll be forced to bring it back.

Obscure to you.
Enjoy more and more commercials then during TV boradcasts.

You can't expect more and more media revenue to Rutgers without the actual media companies attempting to monetize the broadcasts.

The money has to come from somewhere.

That's the bottom line. Being in the Big Ten is great for the school, in terms of the payout to the schools from the conference. But the payout money funding, at least some of it, was always going to get passed on to us. It'd be nice if it was funded entirely with ad sales by the networks, but network execs need their bonuses and all. LOL

Seems like this weekend's game is only on the FOX Sports app, is that correct? Not on cable anywhere?

Not a big deal, the FOX Sports app worked great a couple weeks ago. Just checking.

But how do they increase ad sales?

  • Increased cost to advertisers for current commercials (which get passed onto consumers)
Or.....
  • More commercials!!
Want less commercials? Watch on streaming and pay the networks directly.

What makes you think the NFL is losing billions on the Sunday Ticket deal? DirecTV is hemorrhaging viewers.

Will come in handy for basketball season too...

Big Ten Fans Get 1 Year of Peacock for only $59.99 $39.99

Peacock, NBCUniversal's direct-to-consumer streaming service will deliver exclusive Big Ten football and basketball games each season, as eight regular-season football games will appear on the platform along with as many as 47 regular-season men’s basketball games (32 conference and 15 non-conference) and 30 regular-season women’s basketball games (20 conference and 10 non-conference).

Peacock is one of the cheapest and most content streaming apps out there. And if you have a Roku or smart TV etc. watching on there the feed is so much clearer than a cable box.

Might as well hop on now for $20 bucks a whole year, eventually there will be no more cable boxes only streaming apps. Why would the networks pay Verizon/Optimum to put their stuff through a cable box when they can deliver it right to you over wifi .. in the end will save you money since the technology is cheaper and faster

Seems clear we're gonna get more commercials AND pay networks directly, at least for some games.

I'm just the consumer, so I just assume I'll get screwed by the networks or the internet providers or someone else. I'm not whining about it, though. It's only money and everybody tells me it's the root of all evil, which I mostly think is true. So I never grow too attached to it.
