The semi finals doesn’t go on points. They alternate from year to year

C4 (I'm not sure if this is VHSL-wide or not) stopped doing that a few years ago. Salem hosted Tuscarora (x2) and Broad Run at Salem three years in a row in the state semis.

You are correct the team with the highest power point total host all playoff games. In the State final the team with the highest ppt is the home team.

Correct. That was the case with Regional playoff games as well, except a “Region“ could elect some other method of deciding home/host team. With semi and final state games, they are wholly under the auspices of the VHSL, and the VHSL says the team that had the higher final point rating at the end of the regular season shall be the home team, (and shall be responsible to host the state semi-final game).

Alternating created such enormous travel expenses that it got cost prohibitive. Therefore, the system that is in place now was adopted.
