I was talking about that with a friend the other day. Duncan has 5 titles, 2 mvp's, 3 finals mvp's, in his first 13 seasons he was all nba or defensive teams, 14 time all star. He made the 13 all star team at 37 years old, he averaged 15 & 10 this year at 38. And nobody really talks about him as a all time great or gives a **** about him. Latrell Spreewell and Kwame Brown probably had more jersey sales this year than Duncan.
Tim is one of the greatest players and arguably the greatest player of his generation. He has also done it with 100 percent class.
I've never met a basketball fan that didn't think he was a top 3 all time PF. I'll give you that he doesn't get the hype he deserves, but I think fans recognize how great he is, even if they aren't excited by him.
I just saw an interview with him on espn. You are right about class. Plenty of 'look at me' types in the nba. He's not one of them. Didn't watch the finals, but glad they won.
I don't know about nobody considering him a great. He's consistently mentioned as the greatest PF to ever play basketball. Whether you believe he is or not, he's in the discussion.

I don't know how you define a dynasty in sports any better. They are without a doubt the best franchise in the NBA over the last 25 years.
24 winning seasons (losing season in 97 when Robinson was injured)
21 seasons with 50 or more wins (would be 22 if not for short season in 99)
15 straight seasons with 50 or more wins (would be 17 if not for short season in 99)
15 division championships
7 seasons best record in NBA
6 western conference championships (played in 10 total)

That makes them one of the most impressive dynasties to me. The only franchise that I think compares in the modern era is the 90's Bulls. 6 championship rings over 9 years, with basically Eastern Conference finals quality teams in the middle 3 years, plus 2 or 3 years years of competing for the conference championship before that. Basically 11-12 years of high quality basketball, being the best for half those years and also doing reasonably well for 3 years in the middle of what should have been their peak without the greatest competitor ever.
The spurs have basically been one of the best 4 or 5 teams in the league for 15 years straight and the best team in the league for a third of those years. That's much more impressive to me than stringing together one dominant two or three year stretch with a great team. Even more impressive that they did it with no inherent advantages like the Los Angelos, although I guess having a top 5 player ever drop into your lap (even if you have to tank to get the opportunity) when that player just happens to (a) be content in a small market, (b) be an ultimate team player, and (c) be a freak of endurance is a pretty big advantage.
