....but the question seems to be "where is it going."

Common sense would dictate that it will go to the Pac 12, to give that conference a presence in southern California after USC and UCLA jump to the B1G. SMU is expected to join the Pac12 as well, giving the conference a presence in the DFW TV market. But this article suggests that it could be headed to the B12.

This could end up being fallout from the much-delayed Pac-12 TV contract negotiations that seem to be endless.

From what I read sdsu asked the mw for a one month extension on the deadline to leave without paying the new penalty and also asked for the league to ameliorate their exit fees. League apparently has decided to play hardball and declare sdsu has given notice to exit, demanded the exit fee and kicked their ad out of league meetings.
Should be an interesting summer out west.

This is actually an article from 2013. There no longer is a BE football conference. The AAC took its place and RU played for one season in that conference before beginning its membership in the B1G.
Yeah, I know. My only point is that there was a time when our football futures were intertwined. Boise State too. That died when the BCS, and Big East automatic qualification, died. There was no longer any reason for BSU and SDSU to join.

Mannnnnnnnnnn did expansion or should I say $$$$$$$ & TV ruin college sports.

The fact that the B1G does not play the PAC in Rose Bowl NYD is a crime. So so so many rivalries ruined

The conferences didn‘t have to take the TV money or expand. I blame conference leadership for selling out.

I’m going to disagree. The bowls are an anachronism. In basketball, the bowl system = old NIT tourney.

Unlike basketball, you only have 12 teams in an expanded playoff, which is insufficient to satisfy the other 30 teams with successful (winning) seasons. Bowl games are a reward for the teams not in the playoffs.

Oh yeah - keep the bowls. I'm all for that. I'd go a step further. I'd like the bowls to be mini tournaments of four teams. Two games at the regular home fields the week after the conference championships and then a bowl championship at a bowl. However, the bowls naturally become like the current NIT. A nice thing to play in for a lot of teams, but not the big enchilada.

Looks like a nice lawsuit might be brewing between the Mountain West and
San Diego State
SDST applied to leave and was told cost of leaving by MW.

>Just hours before a deadline to give the Mountain West a one-year notice of departure, San Diego State reaffirmed its membership in the conference.
So everything’s copacetic?
Apparently not.
SDSU contends it never formally left. The Mountain West, however, still insists it has.
The flurry of letters between the university and conference continued over the weekend, and now lawyers are actively involved. At issue is a $6.6 million distribution share for the 2022-23 academic year that the Mountain West is withholding to defray SDSU’s exit fee, pending reinstatement by the board.<
https://www.sandiegouniontribune.co...-pac-12-exit-letters-6-6-million-distribution

I expect a compromise allowing SDST to remain after it gives up $3 million
of the $6.6 mil the MW is holding back from then

Looks like SDST decided the PAC revenue sharing goldmine would probably will turn out to be fools gold when their TV rights deal finally happens
