Sandberg will probably not make it to campus if there was doubt.

If it makes y'all feel any better

Robert Lane (remember that guy?) was supposed to go in the first half of the first round out of high school too, and I was sweating out losing out on the 5 star dual threat QB to baseball. The guy didn't even get drafted. I'm certainly not implying that will happen to Sandberg, but I think the MLB draft is 10xharder to predict than the NFL.

And then he turned out to be pretty much a bust (not a complete bust) in football. Just goes to show that you really never know how good, or not good, these kids are going to be. No matter how much they're hyped coming in.

Dammit!! We should have done like the rebels

and hired BJ queens to help recruit our players. He definitely would have made it to campus then. #dormroomBJs

People

greatly underestimate the mental aspect of being successful. It takes more than physical tools to make it to the next level, and this is hard to judge in a high school kid.

But Lane was weird because he didn't even have the physical tools to be a good qb. He couldn't throw. And from what I understand from one of my UM friends that actually pays attention to that crap, he couldn't throw in high school either. He ran a lot as a qb and was just good enough passer to keep people honest, in high school. I can understand missing on all the dual threat high school qb's that really do have all the tools (Spurlock, Madkin, Omar Conner), because it seems impossible to predict which ones will figure it out mentally and which ones won't, but what makes people latch on to somebody like Robert Lane and think he will figure out how to throw and read defenses in college. And not a know on Robert Lane because he obviously he was a good prospect because he had the tools to play TE or FB and potentially be serviceable at QB, but the only way I can see him being a five star is for one service making a terrible assessment or getting too hyped up over the offers he received to play QB, and then all the other services buying into the hype.

What about the remote possibility that the OM coaching staff screwed him up?
