I think it's as simple as Mamu is a big man who shoots fairly well from the outside, and that fits in very well with today's NBA. It's why a guy like Mamu has value in today's NBA, while a traditional big like Angel Delgado(who would have been huge 15 years ago)never really got a shot. Also, Mamu is a decent rebounder and passer, that helped him fit in as well.

Delgado would have never succeeded in a past nba era. He was paint scoring and in and had no off hand.

Sandro has had a really solid year with Toronto as first big off the bench and sometimes starter for a playoff team. Really happy for him. Great rep of SHU.

Whitehead had many brilliant blocks and assists and shot decently from the perimeter in his NBA time. But Spencer Dinwittie (sp?) shot better and won the starting role. I was surprised he didn't last longer in the league.

Whitehead had many brilliant blocks and assists and shot decently from the perimeter in his NBA time. But Spencer Dinwittie (sp?) shot better and won the starting role. I was surprised he didn't last longer in the league.

Whitehead shot 30.5% from three-point range during his NBA career.

Spencer Dinwiddie ended up having a nice NBA career but the fact he beat out Whitehead for a roster spot was telling at the time.
