He sees the writing on the wall. It’s eventually going to be recruiting players off of NFL scout teams. It’s already out of control, it’s going to be complete anarchy soon. That goes for the financial side too, which I am sure is a big reason he is putting his foot down. Whatever the reason, I’m glad he is doing it.

Same with Trinidad having a cold and trying to get a medical red shirt.
So what was the situation? Someone told me he declined treatment/surgery for one of his seasons so he could start. Ended up not starting and not redshirting. And now he wants to retroactively apply a medical redshirt to that season. Is that right?

It’s pretty cut and dry. He is trying to apply for a medical redshirt after the fact. You have to do it the year of the injury and it wasn’t done. But no way a Mississippi judge will rule against Ole Miss.
And per one of our Rebel posters medical redshirts don’t even exist at I-AA. But of course the judge will rule in their favor

At some point, someone has to be the adult in the room.
Now it's up to the big10 commish to follow suit. That's what's it's going to take sec and big 10 commissioners saying enough and putting the breaks on these programs. If they do then the rest of ncaa will fall in line

You just need to drop off a couple of tv packages at the judges house **

You can’t apply for a medical redshirt in the division Ferris state plays in.

You sure about that?

Linky

Okay my link is weak. The NCAA medical hardship rules appear to apply to athletes in all divisions, but I couldn't quickly find anything expressly stating that.

What I linked is the student newspaper for D2 U Indianapolis explaining how a lacrosse player got a medical redshirt.

I'm willing to entertain the idea that Chambliss could not receive a medical redshirt at Ferris St. for some other reason, but not because it was D2.

However, I stand by my original understanding that athletes who have already redshirted once and are seeking a medical hardship waiver for a 6th season to complete eligibility typically wait until after their 5 years to compete is over.

No, not sure at all - looking back at I was wrong. MS don't require the same level of documentation as D1 but they are allowed. I'll take my beating now.

Chambliss' biggest problem is that the paperwork from his prior school to the NCAA stated that his reason for not playing that year was based on his development (or lack thereof) to earn playing time. I can't find the article that quoted it, but that is the main thing the NCAA is relying on.

Spent this morning trying to get up to speed on yesterday's Bediako hearing. Seems like he will play against Auburn today, but the rest of his season is in doubt.

The original judge who granted the TRO recused himself at the NCAA's request. The new judge, Pruett, went to Alabama for undergrad. But, every State court judge in Tuscaloosa County attended Alabama at some point in their education. The best the NCAA can hope for is a judge who isnt such a supporter of Alabama athletics that it would affect their ability to be unbiased.

Judge Pruett really hammered the plaintiff's attorneys with questions, and seemed to think any damage Bediako might suffer could be resolved financially. That would mean there is no "irreperable harm", and no need for an injunction -- the NCAA could just pay Bediako money if it ultimately loses the case.

Bediako says he is harmed by not getting to showcase and improve his skills over the next couple of months.

Plaintiffs attorneys said there are over 100 former pros in the NCAA right now, and that 20 of the top 25 teams have at least 1 former pro on their roster. NCAA claims they count pro seasons against a players eligibility, so Bediako has exhausted his four years (2 at Bama and 2 in G league).

Judge didnt rule on the injunction yet, so Befiako likely plays today. Expect a ruling soon, though.
