Strick tweeted out Saturday's National Anthem is going to be sung by the fans acapella. Somene will start it up and then fans take over. That has potential to get a little dusty.

Am I the only one that's not a big fan of the national anthem?

Im a huge fan of the USA, the military, apple pie, large breasts, etc. I just don't get the need to sing it before all sports. Also, it's not that great of a song.

Am I worse than Hitler?

You're not. The music is based on an old drinking song, which is why the pitch seems to move up and down wildly. "America the Beautiful" would on the whole be a better national anthem.

I have a similar mindset thinking its a little much to be sung before every sporting event ever. However, I always come to the conclusion that if it wasn't for sports the national anthem would never be heard.

I despise the sight of an enormous American flag...

Just the entire absurdity of it. Not to mention the fact that it is always dragging on the ground. What a way to honor the damn country... here, let me drag this across the field while stepping on it.

Only when the "singers" make it about them, and not the song itself. There are ENDLESS examples of people who've done this, and I don't mean the screw-ups like Rosanne, Carl Lewis, etc... I mean the ones who, at least to ME, alter the song to the point of being unrecognizable.

Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and (forgive me, America) The Dixie Chicks all did versions that are just phenomenal. Great harmony OR powerhouse voices can make that song extremely moving. The converse is true, though. If the song is about you, you're doing it wrong.

Oh, and yes, you love Hitler, Hump.

Not worse than Hitler, I'd say. I think the pledge of allegiance is creepy. And my patriotic bona fides are in good order.

Technically it's not a flag, as a flag is a two-sided object and the reverse of the big one we use isn't decorated. Or that's what they told us in ROTC when we pointed out we were dragging the flag on the ground.

I'd only be in favor of cutting the national anthem out before games if a Ray Charles impersonator was able to sing America the Beautiful before each and every single sporting event in America.

Otherwise I'm in favor of the anthem, unless it's sang by the person from the World Series last night or anyone who tries to make it too fancy and sucks at singing.

For a long time my kids thought the last line of the anthem was GTHOM. First time we went to one of their schools games was kind of embarrassing

Y'all kill me sometimes.

This will be awesome. We're #1. This is OUR NATION.

For those of you that actually go to the games: looking forward to this.

But nobody but Ray Charles should ever be allowed to sing it.

During baseball season, when Kyle Peterson was broadcasting from the lounge, everyone in our area yelled GTHOM after the anthem (and we weren't playing Ole Miss). A couple of the ESPN guys laughed, and a couple of more looked totally shocked.

I was talking to them later and found out that most of that particular crew were contractors out of Jackson who ESPN hires for MS and Alabama related games. Most of them were Ole Miss grads.

Just made it sweeter.

They seriously should put the words on the jumbotron and highlight them as we go if they really want it to be in unison.

Tyson Cunningham can sing his tail off. I saw something on FB or twitter recently that Tyson Lee posted of Cunningham playing the piano and singing. It was pretty great.
