We should be 7-1, but are staring 4-8 or 5-7 straight in the face because our coach is learning (or not) on the job.

But if he walks away to an even bigger dumpster fire in an impossible coaching search year…. That would be the most Mississippi state thing ever to happen to us.

Anybody heard anything along these lines? To me, it seems silly but us getting 17d is the norm these days.

People see the scores and not the games. They also see our record from last year and compare it to this year (not realizing we had a true freshman that got thrown into the starting line up during the first part of the season).
I do see improvement and am not in the fire Lebby group but if he doesn't start taking accountability then I'm swapping sides. It's one thing to mess up being a new coach. It's another when you pass the blame and don't learn from them.

The Mississippi State way would be that Lebby leaves to go to Oklahoma State and takes half our roster with him. They win the Big 12 championship and make the CFP. We wind up hiring some nobody because all the good coaches got snapped up by the bigger name jobs this year. We go 3-9 next year and our fans are calling for the new coach to be fired.

This feels not unlikely

That's so plausible it sent a chill up my spine.

We are worried about another school stealing our room temperature IQ coach that got blown out by Toledo, went 2-10 last year, literally blew two conference games in a row, and is on the precipice of going 0-16 in conference? It would probably be the best case scenario for us.

It’s just a strange idea to me that a sitting p4 HC- not someone like Joe Judge trying to climb the college ranks- would go coach his alma maters arch rival. I know some guys just don’t care but still wierd.

I would argue he blew 3 conference games in a row by calling three straight passes on our last regulation possession when we had been running on them the entire 2nd half. Luckily his Chokelahoma trained counterpart was equally as bad at clock management and end of game decisions.

If it's true he trying to get that job (no idea if it's true or not) he knows he's on borrowed time here and for his career's sake he needs to go somewhere else to restart the clock. If so, that doesn't exactly give me the warm and fuzzies because that's his way of admitting he can't hack it in the SEC.

USM and UMass as well as others have wanted to interview him, not sure if he took them. I feel confident he would come for interview. Can't blame a guy for turning down this job when he had a interview the next day with an NFL team and they were smart enough to not let him go, unlike Cohen who let him walk out of the meeting when he flat out wanted him. Personally his resume has only gotten stronger with his last 2 years of coaching at TSUN. I cmt help but think he's our Clark Lea.

I’m talking about Lebby taking OK state. And saying he isn’t like Joe Judge trying to climb the ranks. So its wierd to me that anyone would think he would go to OK state

I am still on the “I see us getting better and am wanting to see what year 3 brings” train.

Having said that, what I ain’t gonna do is worry about someone stealing our 6-14 coach. His agent can fish for raises through fake interest all he wants.
In a normal year, I’d agree…. But we would be in competition with half the P4 to find a new coach. But, who’s to say this isn’t the new normal anyway. College football is a far cry from what it was only 2-3 years ago. I can barely believe what I’m looking at these days.

It is clear that we are all upset, and should be, but the progress is clear.
I just wish our people would tone it down.
Yeah. I see us as being a little unlucky and going through some growing pains. But we’ve been in such worse places.

I think this is the best passing attack in school history. But, our run game isn’t quite where it needs to be. That’s leaving us vulnerable to blown leads and bad outcomes on 4th and 1.

It’s crazy to want to start over though.

The only thing getting us out of this Lebby mess is a buyout. No one else is taking him off our hands.

I’m still amazed you guys are impressed by the “improvement”. We were an all time bad team last year. He damn near couldn’t be as bad. But not won’t matter, we are still gonna be 0-8 in the SEC.

This makes total sense. looking at next years sec schedule, even assuming the donors dig and scrape to match this years 15 million of nil dollars, there is not a win on there, Lebby is looking at 0-8 and probably a three year record of 1-23, assuming he beats Arkansas.

A fired coach with a head coaching record of 1-23 in conference is probably not getting another job. Oklahoma State and the much easier defenses of the big 12 would be a lifeline to him. I don’t know if he leaves for that job, but it would be a smart move for him.

Whatever…….. I have moved on to 9 year old flag football and Junior High girls basketball. Deer season is on the way. Headed to Vegas next week to see the Eagles and Jackson Browne. The whole dame thing is dead to me. I no longer care if they even finish the current season or just shut it down.

The only silver-lining I can think of if Lebby leaves is it would force Selmon and whatever search firm he hires to move beyond the obvious candidates. The sorta coaches we normally go after (hot P4 assistants, winning G5 coaches, re-treads) will all be gone by the time it's our turn.

If Lebby leaves/gets fired in the next couple of years, I think our next coach will be an experienced head coach. The only question would be at what level.

Lebby once coached our "arch rival", not as a HC obviously

I can't even think of one who meets the criteria - sitting P4 leaves to coach at his alma mater's rival.

Dye and Dooley came to mind, but neither was HC at a power school before taking the jobs at Auburn and Georgia.

Gene Chizik was hired with a 5-19 record at Iowa State. Nothing surprises me after that.

Eagles at the Sphere was fantastic I’d go back and see them again. We’ll probably go see Kenny Chesney next summer.
