<div class="messagebody">"Wow, I really had a great time down in Jacksonville at the Swamp watching Mississippi and Florida State battle it out. I can't remember the last time the Gators only scored six points at home in football. I really thought Tebow would have a better football game, but he seemed nonexistent the whole football game!"

"Coach Mullings is really a good football coach and he has the Bulldogs ready to play every football game. This is the third time I got to see USM this season, starting with Memphis State, then Auburn with Cam Nelson, then LSU and now Florida. They really seem to be coming together as a football team, and I like how sometimes they play good defense, then they play really good offense. That is really the key to winning football games. You have to play good defense and good offense. And special teams, too, are important, but not quite as much as the defense and the offense that I mentioned before."

"I can't wait to get back to Starksville to watch Craig Ralph and the rest of the Dogs take on Alabama this weekend. Should be a good football game with some good coaches on both sides of the football field."

<div class="messagebody">"One thing that Mississippi and Coach Malling can work on is play calling on third and long. See, if you don't get yards on first down, then you have second down. After that, you get third and long. That means its third down and you have a long way to go to get a first down. If you don't get a lot of yards then you will have fourth down, and that is all you get. Just four downs. They almost never give you a fifth down in football.""One thing that helps on third and long is to take a shot. That means the quarterback, whether its Ralph or Rushing, should throw the ball a pretty long way. Then you get a reciever like Bumper to run a long way. If the receiver sees the football he can catch it. If he catches it, then that is a good football play. If not, then you will have fourth down, but not fifth down. So there you go.</div>

When I first started reading it, I thought some dumbass fan had posted this. When I got to "Coach Mullings", I thought to myself, "Did Herm write this?"

Very well done.

Its pretty sad that as a former coach, the only insight Herm can give is about gain small chunks of yards on 1st and 2nd so youre not faced with a 3rd and long. That's all he talks about.

Dude, its not even second down. His quote is always about getting yards on 1st down or you'll be faced with 3rd and long. No wonder this guy never won in the NFL.

</span>In 1978, all the Giants had to do was take a knee.? Instead, QB Joe Pisarcik tried to hand off to FB Larry Csonka...and there was a fumble.? Herm Edwards was the DBack who recovered and ran it in for a touchdown.

As a result of that game, the entire Giants front office was fired.? In came guys like GM George Young, Coach Ray Perkins and later Bill Parcell, and the rise of the "G-men" of the 1980's.

The announcers said, "Just like the opening game of the season when the Patriots were trying to run the clock out on the Redskins." Did this happen TWICE that year?
