I've been a staunch supporter of Schiano for a very long time... but honestly screw that guy. You know he had the opportunity to come here. He could have come in day 2 after the firing, riding in on a white horse to try and save our program if he truly cared about everything he built here. But no, he went after almost EVERY other job that was out there. So he either thinks he's better than RU, he's greedy, or just really doesn't want to come back here. If he was truly loyal to this program and wanted to preserve his legacy, he would have taken on the challenge and come here on a back-loaded deal. I can't wait to get started on a new era of Rutgers football with Ash at the helm.

If he was truly loyal to the program, he would not have spent 3 days at OSU this past offseason helping them out; he would have been here helping out his good friend Kurt Flood. Never thought I would say this, but at this point, eff Gary Schiano.

How do you know he had an opportunity to come here at all?

Heard one guy on the radio say that Schiano has a BIG ego. It is that which is getting in his way. Nobody will take him for any top program, why would you? He will have to re-build his career at another Rutgers like football program. Can you believe the guy really thought they would give him the Southern Cal job? That is an ego for sure.

50% of people on this board don't even want him back. The dumb half. If I was him I'd think really hard before coming back to save us. I wish we were that fortunate. Ash can do a good job though. Let's see what we're paying him and the staff that comes in.

Me too but if his buyout language says he forfeits the $3 million if he takes any coaching job, not just as a HC, he ain't going anywhere for another year. Would you?

Yeah, but what they'll do is offset the amounts. The Bucs would pay the difference in salary. If Schiano gets a new gig at $2M/yr, the Bucs would pay the extra $1M in a settlement... because they save $3M. It's usually how they do it.

But, this was an ego thing. What a shame.

247sports had a legitimate report. You don't get to that point, unless there's truth. An offer was made with a time table.
You have a link to that report?

And sure rumors get to that point without truth. Maybe Greg Brown had a phone with Schiano and news of that got out as an "offer". I'll believe he got an actual offer when I hear it from either him or from Hobbs. Otherwise, I think it's ********.

I wonder if Schiano is much of a fit for the B1G. His style of defense is small and fast, it'll work for a game or two... But not down the B1G gauntlet.

I still think it's very likely Rutgers (or Hobbs) wanted to go in a new direction. As others have said, returning coaches rarely have much success.

Half this board hates him (which I still find hard to believe) - so why wouldn't the school consider a different direction?

Schiano's style was based on what he could recruit. I'm paraphrasing him, but he had basically stated that we were going w/small and fast as opposed to big and slow. But that as the program continued to evolve, he'd obviously go for big and fast when we could recruit those guys.

No longer care what GS does or doesn't do. I respect what he did for RU, and those days are now over.

It's a new chapter.

He had that opportunity at UCF. He passed on it and now he's finding out the hard way that many of the Power 5 AD's don't think he's a very good gameday coach and worth the money.

Let the guy rest in peace. If I was making $2M+ and coaching a Division 1 team, I'd have a big ego also...

TBH, I don't know that Schiano to OSU as DC would be a bad thing for either OSU or Schiano. Not that I see it happening, but if it ever did, I could see it working out well for both parties.

I would say that the "Worst Week In College Football" award goes to both GS and the fired-yesterday ECU coach.
