I arrived about 15 minutes late...and missed the first series with the 1's but was told nothing occurred.

Picking up there, as I was walking up Relf busted a 20+ yard run..which would not be the last run from him on the day either. The defense hold on, and forced the change on downs.
As I got fully to the field and after saying hello to McCain and Backer I began breaking down the plays on the field and taking notes. During this first period the offense was starting at the 35,40, or 50 yard line.

Next in the scrimmage were the kickers.
The snappers and holders had problems getting on the same page at first on the under 30 yard kicks.
But Brauchle was perfect at 42,52, and 57 yarders..and looked to be able to go another 5 yards.
DePasquale was good on 42,52 yarders but came up short on 57, his kick was too high off the foot for that distance and got caught by the wind and landed at the goalline.

Hard to believe someone like yourself would be fifteen minutes late. Shame on you. Do better next time. All sarcasm aside, that is very impressive.

...neither Lee nor Relf is going to remind anyone of Elway or Marino. They both are getting better, but they are not SEC quarterbacks at this time. Lee is now 200 pounds and looks it. I am not sure that is all good.

...but at this point in Spring Training several things are obvious:

1. Both Hutchins and Brauchle give us vast improvement in our special teams. Scooba made a point at the practice when we were talking, that with them on last year's team, we would have finished 6-6 and Croom would still be with us. Hutchins is averaging about 45 yards per punt with about a 5 second hang time. Brauchle routinely makes 50+ yard field goals. He made 52 and 57 yard FG's yesterday in single attempts. He is automatic from 45.

2. The new strength and conditioning coach, Malis, has made a huge difference. The guts our guys had last year are all gone. There are no guts, with just one or two exceptions, on this team.

3. The Offensive Line is making real progress. By the time the season rolls around, I think we will be close to 2 deep. The left side with Sherrod, Tobias Smith, and Brignone is very good. The right side is improving.

4. We REALLY need at least 3 of the incoming freshmen wide receivers to step up. Chad Bumphis, Chris Smith, and Brandon Heavens really need to come through. That is our weakest point with McRae and Wilder both still recovering.

At this point, I don't think the very elite teams in the SEC have anything to worry about when they play us, but we are much better than we were last season. Just the special teams makes us much better. There aren't going to be any 45-0 scores racked up on this team.

...and he is right, unless part of the problem is a lack of wide receivers and the pressure of the D-Line. It seems QB's have improved at about the same rate as the offensive line has improved.

You should have responded to gravedigger. He/she is the only one who seems to be having trouble connecting the dots.

I doubt if these two could start at Memphis, Tulane, or USM.

Point: The former coach put us in dire straits, and we had ppl still willing to look past his incompetence and make excuses for him
