I think you may see many red states following suit. The situation on college campuses is out of control as the left works tirelessly to stifle any speech they don't agree with. Including using riots, threats, intimidation, bodily injury, etc.

A bill proposed by Governer Scott Walker would require Wisconsin university officials to defend free speech.
The bill, which is proposed as a companion bill to Gov. Walker’s budget proposal, asks for a budget provision of $10,000 for the University of Wisconsin system in order to revise its “policies related to academic freedom.”

Describing the use of the additional funding to the university, the bill states, “the board and each institution and college campus has a responsibility not only to promote a lively and fearless freedom of debate and deliberation, but also to protect that freedom when others attempt to restrict it. It is not the proper role of the board or any institution or college campus to attempt to shield individuals from ideas and opinions they find unwelcome, disagreeable, or even deeply offensive.”

The proposed bill is predictably not without its critics in academia. “Just as speakers should have the right to comment on issues they want to, students should have the right to protest what speakers are saying. If the university is being told to censor students, that is troubling,” said Jason Klein, spokesperson for Associated Students of Madison.

UW-Madison Professor of political science and law Howard Schreber mentioned Breitbart Senior editor MILO when discussing the proposed bill: “Milo has been guilty of all sorts of misbehaviors that go well beyond freedom of expression. His own message is profoundly anti-free speech, but that message is just as protected as any other.”

“Universities should not try to limit the range of opinions that are expressed, including opinions critical of other opinions,” Schweber said. “If the university allows groups on campus to invite speakers, it cannot discriminate among those groups or speakers on the basis of an unpopular or offensive message.”

Domestic Terrorism, FBI Should Probe

It's symbolic political showboating. yawn.

No, it's leftist shutting down speech they don't like. Not just students but faculty and administrators. It is happening all over the country. Condaleezza Rice withdrew from a graduation ceremony. Same with Ben Carson. Jason Riley, a black journalist from the WSJ was disinvited from Va. Tech. Ben Shapiro has been banned from speaking at several schools (on the pretense of a lack of security). The list goes on and on. There have been riots, bomb threats, personal injury, even a death.

Leftists on campus don't agree with our First Amendment. They're your peeps.

Fascinating. Why don't you address my comment?

You may not take the First Amendment seriously as like many liberals on campuses, but most Americans do. This is not showboating this is a fascist movement.

If it happened just one time, you blow that off. If it happens twice, it may be a coincidence but not this many times, not this many locations, and not this much coordinated activity.

vvv This is the only comment by you other than "lol" that I can find in this thread. vvv

I don't no what kind of reply anyone would expect for that. Maybe something symbolic? Am I missing a post?

The only thing I could think of is the showboating to which I responded. I'm with you I have no idea what he is asking or inferring.

Did you notice your original post? What is the reality of this proposed legislation? Even if passed, what does it do? Imo pretty much nothing. Protestors will protest if they want. To me it's political showboating and posturing and doesn't add anything. Mr. Walker is just seeking attention.

Here's a reply: "Thank you for that input. Your opinion is valuable to this forum."

This is not trying to stop protesting, but we are not talking about protesting. We are talking about libs shutting down free speech. Riots, bodily injury, intimidation, threats of violence, bomb threats and the like.

Walker is sending a message to Wisconsin, it is your job to protect and promote free speech. I would have preferred penalties for each time free speech was shut down, but this is a start.

Tennessee is doing something similar.
