It's really wild watching people on the left try to flip the understood meaning of Title IX. The anti-women's sports crowd is actually probably technically correct based on a hyper literal reading of the text:
You can certainly take that and make the argument that there should be no sex specific bathrooms or sports or dorms or whatever.
But it's wild to take that and say that it violates Title IX to not let men play in women's sports because while their sex is male, their gender is female.
Title9 isn't a women's sports law. That is the context in which it is discussed like 95% of the time on here, since its a sports message board, but it isn't a women's sports law.
It is a law that effectively ensures equal opportunity to education. So that applies to the classroom, to campus life, to activities, and to sports.
It is what helps reduce how many assault claims are ignored or swept under the rug at colleges.
It is what helps ensure equal access/opportunities in high school sports.
It is what keeps schools from removing pregnant teen girls from school.
It is what makes schools provide reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities so they can learn alongside their peers.
This may seem like semantics, but the existence of Title9 is very important to me personally and professionally. It matters to me that it is seen as more than just a law that forces schools to fund girl's sports.
As for whether the current arguments in front of SCOTUS are valid or legitimate, I have no idea.
What I do know is that I don't advocate for biological males playing in girl's sports in High School. Additionally, I know the issue is blown out of proportion by many who support it and many who criticize it.
Lastly, it is unfortunate to see people demonize others for disagreeing, and that goes for both sides of the issue.
