Scout to downgrade Quay to 4*

I don't think it has anything to do with MSU because Autry and Redmond are both getting bumped up. However, Scout has made a terrible decision in basing their part of their ranking formula on character. It is just so subjective and misleading. For star purposes players should only be ranked by talent and talent alone. That way people actually know what type of player they are getting. Is that the point in the first place?

legit, but it's probably already obvious when a player is exceptional. I trust Dan's judgement.

James is a 3 star onrivals, but a four star on scout, who gives out much fewer four stars, so Idoubt scout is the character nazi

I would guess that the people who move up to the 5th star level dominated in at least some sort of AL MS game.

should academics.....It's completely ludicrous..........If the guy had been arrested or had lots of trouble off the field, then maybe but short of that it's got nothing to do with a players athletic prowess........

I think he was the 13th overall DT and they knocked him down to 40th. I'm sorry, but a kid's attitude to me has absolutely no bearing on how well they play on the field. And I guarantee these recruiting sites don't know the full story behind why kids might be suspended. I don't know if the Nick James story is true about his coach not making a tape for him, but if it is and that's what got James upset and suspended, how can you knock him down for that? We all know James and Quay are top notch recruits regardless of what recruiting sites say.

You damn well know if he committed to Bama then he'd still be a 5 star. None of this affects how he can play or how he will do in school. No shock that this has all come about. Yancy has been telling his heard not to worry about Quay because they'd all know why Ole Miss wasn't recruiting him any more. So now today salaciousrumors are out there and he gets dropped (inconsequentialcompared to the rumors). This is the part of recruiting that sucks. Silly ******** like trips to a nudie bar get blown up and middle aged men hang on every tidbit.

with multiple examples of players with legal issues they hadn't downgraded under the same policy, could supply no real explanation.

...as far as awarding stars, Scout.com is trying to use Quay to appear "fair & balanced." That is to say, if Quay commits to LSU, Bama, Texas or Ohio State & receives a star downgrade due to "character issues," scout.com realizes they will have to put up with hate mail & death threats.

Not so much if he is commited to Miss. State & you downgrade him.

Talk about a meltdown. It would be worth it to you to pay for one month just to read yesterdays drama. When the Scout bosses, whoever they are got on and tried to explain themselves it went from good to epic.

You are right. When the one Scout guy said everyone cheated and that he was fine with it,and tried to be propped up on morality at the same time....place went beserk.

Great read. haha

Autry was bumped up to a 5*, Redmond to a 4*, Coman to a 3*, Siddoway from NR to a 3*, and Justin Senior not yet ranked. Holloway still a 2*.

A kid's attitude has a lot to do with how well he plays on the field, or even if he ever makes it to the field. A lot of the guys who have been run out of the Bear camp the last few years didn't have a talent problem, they had an attitude problem. As for the suspensions and the reasons for them, the recruiting sites may not know the whole story, but neither do we. At the very least, it's a little bit of a red flag when a star HS player gets suspended. Doesn't necessarily mean there's a serious problem, but it sure could.

At the end of the day, so what if Evans got bumped down to 4 stars and Autry up to 5. They're both still the same player and the same person they were before.

All of those things are insanely objective! How in the hell is a recruiting website supposed to accurately determine a players personality and willingness to work? And the guy got suspended for getting into it with his coach, so? Do we know what they got into it about? Do we know what was going on in his life at that time? What was happening with his family? Even grades can be subjective depending on the school and the classes taken.

I mean damn, we had our best player in basketball sitting on the bench last game and NO ONE here knows why for sure. Was it his knee? Was he suspended? We have had multiple threads on this board discussing it. So if people like us, who live and breath this **** everyday can't get the full story how do you expect a recruiting site dealing with thousands of kids to make accurate determinations of someone's attitude or personality?

The stars are supposed to be about talent and production. Does this player have the talent to play his position and does that show as increased production when he is on the football field. Anyone trying to do anything else may as well be sitting in front of a Ouija Board.

than they do of evaluating talent to begin with. These rating are a huge joke that people put WAY too much stock in. If nothing else, what happened today proves that the ratings are being influenced by the subscribers, which many of us have been saying all along.

I can see talent in a video and production in stats. I can't really figure out character from a video and there is not a lot of character box scores in the paper

is qualified to look at video and evaluate talent. And for most positions, stats either don't really exist or they're fairly meaningless. I think most of their evaluation comes from talking to people. There's no question that in the real world, forgetting any recruiting rankings, character and attitude count. And the fact that two of our most high profile recruits have been suspended is a red flag that there could be a potential problem there. Again, not necessarily, but in terms of risk a player who's been suspended before is a higher risk than a player who hasn't. Mississippi got burned on a lot of high risk players in the Orgeron/Nutt eras. Let's not claim any recruiting championships until we win on the field, which by the way, I'm happy to claim the recruiting championships for most of the Orgeron/Nutt era at Mississippi.

kid. i have no opinion on quay specifically, but look at the attrition ole miss has had because of both those factors. one of the reasons that orgeron got some highly rated kids is that several of them had academic or character questions and the bama/s, uga's, lsu's of the world passed on them, at least early in the process. i think mccluster was one we got in on when it looked like he wouldn't qualify and when he did, he stuck with us anyway. he may or may not be the best example but we had a number. a lot of them didn't stick it out or never got in. to me that factor is a valid part of rating a kid. its not just the best highschool player its his relative value to a college team. that's why the definition of a 5* is a kid who can come in and have immediate impact. if he's in jail or academically ineligible he won't help much.

exactly **** until he does something.

McCluster would havebeen one of the top rated players in the nation had anyone known his true character.
