Pisgah scrimmaged Erwin Friday. Two completely different styles of play with how we’re made up this year. They’re spread it out and live on the edges with big plays and we’re about as big and thick as we’ve been in a long time in the backfield.

For the game scenario portion of the scrimmage, Erwin scored in about 3 mins and had one 40ish yard run. We got the ball and had an 8:30+ minute drive that ended in a TD. End of scrimmage. 😁

Erwin has 1 sizeable RB (22) and then the rest of their skills group looks like 5’6” 150lb jitterbugs. On the other hand, we have four that contribute a lot in offense that 5-8” to 5’10” and weigh about 200 to 230.

West Craven scrimmages I C Norcom at 7:30 @ Northeastern and then SWE scrimmages Northeastern . I don’t know anything about Norcom. They are a Virginia school. NE-SWE should be fun. I just got in here so I have no idea who is playing now.

Mt Airy went George Wythe HS an scrimmaged Grayson County. Mt Airy did what they wanted but did not look like a well oiled machine.

Against NorCross, private school, Bears got their tail kicked. Defense looked good, not great, offense NEEDS LOTS of work.

My guess today is Starmount Rams May very well enjoy their trip to the Granite City next Friday.

Kinston and East Duplin scrimmage last night. Teams ran 10 plays on offense and 10 defense with JV teams in between sessions. This going on for 2 and a half hours. Kinstons two D1 receivers are as advertised with the NC State commit being the better imo. Their QB is big and strong and can really spin it. He has a D1 look to him. ED put pressure on QB all night at least with the starters ( lots of subbing) and did pick off Kinston QB 4 times. But Kinston and their receivers got theirs too. ED on offense could move the ball pretty well also. I think Kinston scored 4 times and ED 3. Scrimmage with all the subbing it's hard to tell but if both teams played straight up next week it's a toss up. Just my opinion.

Starmount has a good QB and running back. It should be good game Starmount doesn't have a lot of depth. Their jv team looked pretty good

We had a good scrimmage with I C Norcom tonight. Defense shut IC out. Didn’t do anything fancy with the offense but honestly I believe we could throw on them all night. Our qb had a long pick 6 on defense and threw a long TD pass. Backup qb which is a freshman came in and he also threw a long TD pass hitting his receiver in stride. Had some penalties and some mistakes in the defensive secondary that needs working on but I’m really proud of the effort the kids played with tonight. 21-0 is a good nights work!

I seen most of the contenders in 3a east scrimmage. (Imma throw ED in too.) Here's some thoughts:

ED. Can’t really get a read on these guys. They have they moments out there. A lil small up front for sure but the big back is trouble for folks.

Wallace: this my team so maybe I’m a lil biased. But I like the way our defense look. Defense fast and fly around looking to hit. Offense definitely need work but we gone come around.

Kinston: receivers definitely dogs. #2 crazy. But rest of team really don’t impress me. Kinda similar to kinston team last year IMO

whiteville: look a lil different than last few years. Lost a lot I think on both sides but can tell they got a good coaching staff

Clinton: honestly tonight they game against JK was disappointing. Kinda thought they was gone be back to being Clinton but definitely not what I seen tonight. Couldn’t block JK up front at all. And after first couple plays couldn’t stop them at all either. Maybe the QB gone make a difference but idk we’ll see

JK: honestly I hate to say it cause they our rival but they look like the team to beat around here and man idk if it’s close. They looked good against hoggard then they beat the brakes off Clinton in dominating fashion. Got athletes for days over there and they line ain’t bad either

how I would rank these teams rn
1 JK
2 WRH
3 Kinston
4 ED/Whiteville
5 Clinton

That was pretty disappointing what I saw from Clinton last night. I understand the QB didn’t play but it’s a lot of red flags. The offensive line being the biggest and overall effort/mentality being the other. After the first drive JK punched em in the mouth and they folded thats not a good look. I thought with what they returned they would be further along then that but it almost looked like a carbon copy of early last season. Granted it was against James Kenan who looked the part and I believe will be one of the top teams in the 3A east…..still I can’t think of one positive thing I saw tonight from the Horses.

Did the freshman Qb take most of the snaps or did the Jr who looks the best between the two and question two did they try moving the ball in the air any the run alone is going to get them nowhere just like last year from the sound of it what you saw didn't look good

Northeastern is scrimmaging tonight at home. I think they are scrimmaging a Virginia team. I’m not sure what happened to cancel them scrimmaging SWE last night. I was looking forward to that as much as our own scrimmage. I may go back this evening to see NE scrimmage.

The freshman took all snaps with first team, as I think he should.
Given that Braxton Sumner did not play that I am aware of, it is clear MT Airy only had one viable running back at this time.

seldom did we run an two back option set.
The line did not open hardly any holes.
And the wide outs did not catch any passes to speak of.

Clear Mt Airy has a lot of work to do this week or Starmount will lay a beat down on the Bears. In my not so happy opinion.

I'm surprised to hear this about the Bears. It makes me question the coaching. Maybe they're just experimenting with different things in the scrimmages. With the new QB and his ability to pass the offense may be trying to cater to that and will be an adjustment period

I am not on the inside of the program so my observations are solely based on observations. I know Austin was a main part of JK’s brain trust and planning.

So I give him benefit of the doubt. But Friday will tell everyone a lot.
