SDS has an interesting article on low-rated QB recruits

QB is one of those positions that I would expect to see the ratings often not pan out.

It's not a position you can truly evaluate through measurables. Being tall with a strong arm isn't the end-all. The rest can depend on the QB's fit within the offense (Tyler Russell square peg in the Mullen round hole for example, compared to Dak Prescott the round peg), or it can depend on intangibles like toughness.

Snead is a prime example of a head case. When he had Oher as his left tackle, he was happy in the pocket, and he had a really good year. When he lost Oher, he lost his confidence in his OL and was too scared to stand in the pocket and make a throw.

You could probably throw a lot of the low-rated former Texas Tech QBs under Leach on that list as well. I don't think many of them were highly rated, though they all put up huge numbers.

Just look at the history of 1st round QB busts and low-round Hall of Famers in the NFL. Projecting a QB from one level to the next is pretty much a crapshoot even for the best talent evaluators around.
