You are likely correct but his parents and he seem to be strong in their stance

of honoring their pledge to MSU. With that said I would agree it would be hard to turn down the school you have pulled for all your life. We should have a backup plan I hope*. I think this is an indication that they are struggling with their recruiting a little more than they anticipated and they are making sure they have Rawlings as one of their backup plans if they whiff on some of their current commits.

Allegiances can change in the recruiting process. Plus he has a high school teammate at MSU.

if this kid isn't good enough for them.............

then why would we want him? If he's a UM backup plan and he accepts if they finally offer, then we're down to our backup plan - that would mean we're offering a kid at least two tiers below what they consider an SEC lineman.

I'd rather think that they missed on their evaluation of Rawlings, reevaluated and realized they missed so they offer. And then he sticks with us.

Not that it matters but they were never teammates haha. Justin and him do know each other though. Same high school.

I don't think OM will offer either. But if they do Sean said he is not flipping. Has too much invested into state.

He didn't have enough stars to garner any attention from the Bears. It really

is that simple. You need to read the article on recruiting that was linked last week on George O'Leary from Central Florida. I think it is safe to say Mullen and MSU have a similar approach to recruiting and firmly believe Rawlings can be a good SEC player therefore we offered. The Bears obviously have to take note that our approach may not be a bad one since they have been whipped four out of the last five. You need to recruit good players that have "we" attitudes not "me" attitudes.

Let me rephrase: his dad's comments answered the question "is Sean committed to MSU?", but they did not answer "Who would you sign with if OM offers". And, it seemed like he was very careful to make sure he kept those two mutually exclusive.

I don't think it's hard to disconnect the old allegiances at all.

I was an OM fan growing up from an OM family. I could have gone to either MSU or OM for free, but MSU did a really job recruiting me and it was a big plus. Having representatives of a school act as if they really want you there vs indifference from the other has a big impact and many times overcomes who you were attached to as a kid.

Weren't all these questions answered that they were 100% MSU no matter if OM offered back when Sean first committed? I mean maybe they have softened now that it looks like OM may indeed offer but how many times are they suppose to answer the question? If he would rather go to OM as a backup plan than come to MSU where he is truly wanted then there is not much we can do about it anyway.

Take this for what it's worth. I have no idea if Rawlings would flip or not, so I won't speculate on that. I am however confident that his recruitment is not related to any "whiffs" in the current class. It is related to "whiffs" in classes prior to 2012. Nutt's regime was terrible at OL evaluations and we have a few Upperclass OLs on scholarship who have not panned out. As far as recruiting evaluation OL is the most difficult to get a handle on. Being an "Internet recruiting guru" for 10 years, 2 of the sure bet OLs have actually lived up to the hype, Oher and Tunsil. But the majority of the time you just cross your fingers on these guys. I think it's a safe this is the same for every school outside the state of Alabama.

Sean is going to surprise a lot of people. 6'6" 290 and moves like he's 230. He has every measurable and intangible you could ask for. When you cast the net as wide as UM did (200+ out of state offers), it misses a lot. they whiffed on this one.

From the distance, it looks like he's being recruited purely as a back up plan if you miss on Jordan Sims.

You've offered 35(Scout) to 37(24/7) OL in the 2014 class thusfar -- none of which is named Sean Rawlings. Hardly a priority -- to say the least.

And the 2 you mentioned (Oher and Tunsil) were both Top 10 OL recruits in the nation. Even OL recruits, which definitely are harder to judge, when at that rating level rarely don't pan out at all unless they get injured. But once you get past maybe the Top 30 OL recruits in the nation it seems to be pretty much a crap shoot on how their college career turns out.

Engie you may be right about sims. My personal opinion is the is much ado about nothing and is just a subscription selling story. As stated hard to tell when you get past about the top 20 or so OL.

In a sense, yes. But we are looking at Rawlings as a center prospect, whereas Sims is purely a guard prospect. Sims is Ole Miss bound unless Bama offers, which is unlikely but not impossible so I doubt we offer Rawlings.

What is your side hearing about Brandon Bryant? He is scheduled to visit us later in the month.

Bryant sez he doesn't like to hunt, fish, or blowup bars so we are feeling great

Seriously, he has told us if we don't want him to visit he will cancel the visit. Sez he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize his offer from us because he is signing with us. Sounds like a lock for you guys*

Guess Mullen finally backed off of that dumb "If you're visiting, you're not committed" stance. Learned from the Deon Mix situation.

Hearing Ole Miss also offered Jay Johnson

Ole Miss supposedly offered State commit, Jay Johnson of Bruce today, also. Found that very interesting. What's the story on him? I've never seen his name mentioned on the Ole Miss boards before today.
