We had 8 errors last weekend alone.

Also, I thought we were leading the country in double plays turned..?

If we are going to play a small ball brand of baseball (which I do not mind). Why isn't he going out and recruiting some guys that can play defense? I would think that this would be an easier thing to scout for/project for than power.

it really isn't hitting ...i mean we aren't great at hitting, but if we could make people earn hits instead of giving them runs our overall w-l would be better

9th in runs allowed
3rd in ERA

Especially considering the amount of close games we've been in.

We've failed at 12 steal attempts, and I'd be willing to bet that 1/2 of those are failed hit and runs. I know we missed 2 against Vandy. Seems like I remember a couple against Auburn as well.

TN is 6-6 under new coach Dave Serrano.

They won 7 total last year.

our team isn't going to sweep anyone.

The focus needs to be on getting 1 against SC, Florida, and KY. Then if you can get 2 against OM, Bama, and TN, that's 14 wins. Hard to believe.

Its a pretty weird year in the SEC.

I think you've got LSU, Florida and Kentucky as your top 3 teams. After that, there are about 6 teams battling for two other regional host sites in my opinion. We may get 6 host sites, but I think 5 without question. Im still not sold on Arkansas, though if Baxendale gets things together, they may get things together.

I will say this, Frost has worked his way into my good graces (not that it matters what I think). It does bother me we haven't had a true SS in a long time. Frazier is doing pretty good, but he is really a second basemen. Being 12th in the league in HR isn't surprising, but having only two or three guys in the lineup that can go yard is just sad to me.

in comparison. Every time I hear Jim say "...[Redacted] is moving to second... and no play will be made," it makes me sick. I know we picked off several runners this weekend, but none attempting to steal. We have to be at the bottom of the league in caught stealing.

You've got Florida and Kentucky, and maybe LSU that should host. Then after that you've just got a lot of mediocrity. No bad teams other than Bama, but none really good either. I don't think the SEChosts more than 4 regionals.</p> Just look at Boyd's ISR rankings.

2 - UF
5 - UK
12 -LSU
15 - Ark
21 - USC
23 - UM
50 - MSU
62 - AU
63 - UT
77 - UGA
95 - Vandy
146 - Bama

I think the SEC is a bit down this year. South Carolina and Vandy aren't nearly as strong, and UF is dropping games it shouldn't be.

That might change over the next weekends and teams get things settled.

Gausman is pitching like a top 5 pick, and their hitters have started hitting. They really struggled to start the season.

Florida is in their head right now, but their talent is just too much. You want to be playing Florida right now, you probably don't want to play Florida when the light comes on. I also think Arkansas is about to flip a switch too. With Baxendale throwing on Sunday, that is just ridiculous.

I think both MSU and OM missed big time opportunities against AU. So far Ole Miss is literally two strikes away from being 8-4 in the SEC. Im not sure they will be able to make those games back up. I think right now 16 SEC wins may be the ceiling depending on the series with MSU. As for MSU, the losses in extra innings will be really tough, because I really think South Carolina is looking to turn the corner.

At the end of the day, the key is to avoid being swept. Neither school can recover from being swept, and both schools have the potential to be swept on any given weekend due to inconsistency in the lineups and bullpen. Should be an interesting finish.

Kentucky and UF as national seeds (I am assuming UF gets back on track)<div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div><div>
</div><div>LSU, Arky, and USC as regional hosts</div><div>
</div><div>I think USC will get a regional if they are close just based on being back to back defending champions. </div><div>
</div><div>With our remaining schedule it is going to be tough to get to 13 or 14 wins. We desperately need to avoid sweeps. </div>

Even though he was our best starter down the stretch last year and did nothing this season to lose a starting role. Cohen just loves to tinker with ****, he is the antithesis of Polk when it comes to lineup changes. Polk would never change **** and Cohen can't quit messing with it.<div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div> <div>
</div><div>To get to 14 we will have to avoid any sweeps or that will be the death nail of sniffing 14.</div>

the bottom line is when we start runners, bad things happen.

Just stop stealing and stop hit/run. That would help us tremendously.

Anyone can beat anybody on any given weekend- and winning on the road is tough. Ask Auburn.

We beat up on each other, but it pays off for the conference in the end when postseason play comes around.

There's normally at least one team with a losing record but most years that team is usually medicore and would probably do OK in C-USA which is a strong baseball league.

They say you win 20 SEC games, you stand a good chance of winning the conference.

This is what MSU fans need to understand about the SEC- we can win 15 and still make a strong run in the postseason- a lot like last year and 2007 when we went to Omaha. We don't have to win 25 SEC games a year to have a good season. We can lose 12-13 SEC games and we stand a pretty good chance of hosting most years.

And would probably be 1st if not for the fact that we've 17ed so many bunt attempts up. We bunt entirely too much

you have a good chance at making a run to Omaha<div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div><div>
</div><div>Crazy thing is there will probably be 8 teams out of the SEC this year in regionals with a possibility of 9. Vandy and Bama are out. That leaves us fighting with UGA, Auburn, UT for 2 spots. I think UT will fall apart so as long as we don't collapse I think we are set up for a nice 3 seed in a regional. </div>

You can't like your chances of making it to Omaha if you're on the road for the regionals and super regionals. We use to ***** about BBall ending up a 7, 8, or 9 seed and getting knocked out by better teams. When you squeak into the NCAA's, the odds of you making some noise on the road drops way, way down.

Make no mistake, college baseball is about making it to Omaha (we've told our OM friend this for a decade now - right?). The Super Regional was nice last year, but it lined up about as well as we could ask.

But if the projections are correct (it's all I have to go off of at this point)- and five teams host- that means finishing in the top half of the league. You don't have to dominate the SEC to do that.

Also, theoretically the teams that aren't as good as the top teams go play on the road in the NCAA's- so they're not as talented.

People talk about flukes and things lining up right last year- we had to play UF on the road in a SR. That's hardly what I call lining it up right. I think if we play anyone else in a SR last year other than any of the other SEC teams- we go to Omaha.

but I was curious. If I was Cohen I would still probably trust a couple of guys like Norris or Frazier to execute a hit and run, but I am not going to complain if Cohen quits starting runners.

think it's a down year at all. I just believe there is a great deal of parody. There is a lot of talent in the league.
