Give me Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech and no conference will ever take the title of Best away from us.

if they had been turned down by a lot of other shools and were desperate. I'm not even sure that Florida St. would be all that high on the list either. If the SEC expands it will be completely driven by adding new markets. North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech would all be much more attractive teams from the ACC.

he told my Dad 20 years ago (when S. Carolina and Arkansas came in) that Texas and A&M would be in the SEC eventually.

Jim Ellis prognosticates.

Anyway, this is the best idea I have heard yet. 16 teams 4 divisions. That would one helluva playoff for the SECCG. However, we would never win it. We won't win it like it is.....but it is even longer odds in that format.

Same thing with FSU and Florida. Rivalry games, traditional or manufactured, add to the appeal of college football.

This is the first expansion plan I have seen that makes sense. I would be very much in favor of this plan.

What they don't add is much incremental revenue for the SEC. Especially Clemson. You could at least make the argument for FSU that since Florida is such a huge state, gaining total control over it (except for extreme southern Florida) might be worth it. But I can guarantee that if expansion happens, it will be into new markets (with the possible exception of FSU). Because that's the only way to generate the $20M per team added annual additional revenue it would take to make expansion worthwhile.

Anything on the east coast won't matter that much - we have it covered as much as probably can - as you stated. We can't creep any further North than Kentucky if we still want "southeast' to be accurate - so that's out. As long as we get the Texas schools (technically not "southeast", but close enough for most in this country), that's all that really matters. The amount of incremental revenue we would pick up with them would be so ridiculous we could invite Troy and Tulane and it wouldn't matter - we just need to get to the 16 number once we seal the deal with Texas and TAMU.

Personally, I'd prefer GA Tech (Atlanta is cheap/easy to get to) and North Carolina (for basketball) vs. Clemson and FSU. That's just me - it won't bother me too much who the other 2 are as long as we seal the deal out West.

If all that matters is bringing in Texas and Texas A&M to get the Texas market, then we'd just expand to 14 and stop there. Why split that added revenue 16 ways when you can split if 14 ways? EVERY team added will have to bring in a lot of incremental revenue or they won't be added. Period. The only possible exception would be if we needed 1 more team to stay at an even number. But even then, that team would have to bring in at least some additional revenue.

but this is probably the best plan I've seen. A few people have posted something similar in the past, and it looks to hurt us the least. Inside a division with Bama, Auburn, and UM, we might could swing a division "title" every so often. More often than we win the SEC West at least.

until they take the unanimous rule away, and I don't see that happening. A) We don't need em. B) anyone who forgets the history of how they left the SEC the first time should be kicked in the teeth.

I would rather no change things up BUT if the Big 10 really looks like it is pushing this direction it is better for the SEC to lead then to get left behind. A Final Four playoff would be insanely cool. The hype, attention and money it would bring in would be amazing.

No divisions, one 16-team conference but each college plays the other teams in its football division twice (home-and-away) and everyone else once for an 18-game conference schedule.

seasons if people aren't playing common opponents. One school gets five easy games and another gets five hard. That's a big difference from now where it's mostly common opponents.

Not sure there would be a good solution, but it could probably set up so divisions are matched up against each other, rotating each year like interleague play in baseball. So you have your 3 division games, 4 games vs another division, and then 1 other game that could be the cross-division rivalry.

and still have a four team playoff. It works for the professional sports. Or stick with two 8 team divisions, and start playing 9 conference games.

The NCAA is not about to even think about allowing a 4-team conference playoff. This is just a fantasy from a few bloggers. If the SEC expands, it will be to either 2 7-team divisions or 2 8-team divisions.
