We have no one on the 1st team. Was just listening to Jay Barker read them out loud on JOX. We were picked 5th in the west behind OM. A&M 6th.

We did get one SEC Champion vote. Wasn't me if you were wondering.

Dak, Bernadrick, Chris Jones all second team.

Wait. Folks are predicting Arkansas to be a better football team than us?

How? Huh? What?

Oh well. Reality is Alabama and Auburn are 1A and 1B, and then there isn't very much separating teams 3 through 7.

I wish they all picked us 7th. That's what has always played to our advantage in the past when only state fans know we have a good team

I still don't know about Arkansas, but I do think your 1A and 1B may be closer to the pack than not.

The West this year really should be wide open. About the only team that I couldn't see winning it under any circumstances is Arkansas. Alabama still has to be the favorite, along with Auburn and LSU behind them, but I don't think any of those teams are that far ahead of A&M, or those danged Mississippi schools that should be in the AAC.

I think this will be the closest the west has been in years.

Auburn is the only team out of Auburn, Bama, and LSU that I expect to be better this year than last year. They may not be much better than they were at the end of the year, but they should be a much more consistent team that doesn't require an insane streak of luck to stay undefeated. I could see Bama and LSU taking a step back to being even with MSU based on what they're losing, but based on hwo they have reloaded the past five years, I think the safer guess is that they will continue to be top 5ish teams that have just enough turnover to keep them from going undefeated and likely not even 11-1. A&M I could see being as high as second based on their recruiting, but would guess they will be sixth based on how their defense played last year (provided neither MSU nor UM are hammered by key injuries).

I could see this being a year where nobody makes it out of the west with fewer than two SEC losses. I expect the winner of the west to have two losses and to win on a tie breaker because one of their losses was to an East team.

That would mean neither of us, since we both should go 2-0 against the East.
