This one on the ESPN SEC Blog is interesting ... by ESPN.com Staff ... Posted 2 Sep ... http://espn.go.com/blog/sec

Here is what they have and my observations after week 1 - Agree that Georgia showed a lot and deserves #1; A&M showed up but don't think they showed they were #2 ... yet; Aub, Bama and LSU won ugly ... can't argue with where they are ranked; agree that State looked better than OM BUT USM was pitiful; Missouri looked okay BUT think that USCe is better than they looked; UT looked okay but sure wouldn't move them ahead of Florida 'til I see the gators play; while Kentucky looked good, wouldn't have them ranked higher than Arkansas ... yet; don't see Vandy escaping the cellar this season. Noticed that I definitely favored West teams, guess I'm more familiar with them; have 3 East teams at the bottom. This will definitely change when West teams have to play all the other West teams & their Relative SEC rankings will drop. Fire away!

The scary part is that no one in the entire Top 13 with the exception of Carolina looked anything below pretty good in Week 1. Considering the competition for most, I guess that's to be expected, but it bothers me that UT, Kentucky, and Arkansas all seem to be substantially improved.

Agree ... AND would add Texas A&M, who looked way, way better than last year against consensus #1/#2 East team USCe.

So, is A&M that much better or USCe has taken several steps back? Could it be both? Or, did USCe simply not prepare for a 'lowly' rated West team?

USCe seems to take a dump once or twice a year, and just completely suck. Aggie could be really good or not, I can't tell yet.

aTm may very well end up being as legit as they looked on Thursday, but, S. Carolina looked slow and out of place all night on defense. A&M has a really good OL, but, SC generated zero pass rush, while the back end looked lost in coverage. I know missing a fully healthy Mike Davis hurts, but they had no ground game, either.

I kept thinking before the game how good the offense would be w/Davis and Thompson, and that OL, but, didn't really think what would happen to the defense minus Clowney, Quarrles, and Sutton up front. ECU coming up will be a challenge, but SC should take care of business after a half.

If your defense has no edge or is playing soft and conservative then TA&M's offense will make you look like that. SC's defense looked pretty much like our defense looked under Chris Wilson playing A&M in 2012 at DWS. SC gave up 683 yards and our 2012 defense gave up around the same amount.

oof, I thought the same thing... Which begs the question, has this been the Lorenzo Ward defense all the way, just exposed without freaks on the DL, and experience in the secondary?

Pretty good news that three of the bottom four are on our schedule.

Looks like no more than a field goal's difference in #1 and #6.

Dammit.
