Seeing all of these banners made me wonder:

With Anthony Dixon already holding the MSU career rushing TD record, and barring injury likely to become MSU's all-time leading rusher this season, will he and should he grace one of the full-size banners by himself someday, a la Norwood, Madkin, Bond?

He's a great athlete, a workhorse. Not a great RB.

Dixon is running up stats they way Derick Taite ran up stats. Starting 4 years, feet into the fire from his freshman year. Not because he was a superstar, but because he was just better than anybody else we had.

Furthermore, Dixon has a lot of stats because we had no passing game to speak of. Nothing to do but hand Dixon the ball.

I hate to be hatin on Dixon. But in the annals of MSU RBs, he's just average. Michael Davis, Michael Haddix, JJ Johnson, Keifer McGee, David Fair, Decinso Miller, Jerious Norwood, etc... Dixon isn't a better RB than any of those guys.

It would almost be a shame to see him sit atop Norwood's stats. Norwood ran very sparingly his Freshman year as The Kang eased him in slowly.

He's a good running back, not great. Unless he goes bat **** crazy and rushes for 2,000 yds this year (please please please), he's not banner worthy.</p>

and we are all hoping for that breakout. I just couldnt imagine it. I think he'll lose out on a decent amount of carries to our other backs. Especially with the amount of time our backs will spend as receivers, running more.

ets: That being said, I think he can have a great year. Just not get those HUGE numbers due to splits

I think Dixon isn't quite being given the credit that he has earned. He is a talented guy that came to play in the SEC behind a horrible offensive live, no passing threat, and no coach to teach him how to run at this level. Given the circumstances, I really don't know if many backs we've had through the years could match what he has accomplished. I'd put him just behind Norwood and JJ on our running back list during the last 15 years.

He's not the best running back we've had, but he has also had the misfortune of playing behind the worst offensive lines we've ever had and playing for the worst head coach in America. So 1st in attempts but 4th in yardage really isn't telling the whole story. I remember he saved our *** during the 2007 Auburn game by getting 1 or 2 yards or just back to the line of scrimmage when he could've been taken down for a loss. Things like that go unnoticed b/c the gain is negligible.

1st in carries behind the **** lines we've had means he's a lot tougher than he gets credit for.

He did a hell of lot to help out in the 2007 season that I'll remember. Basically, the defense would hold, we'd hand Dixon the ball until we were out of our own endzone and he was about to pass out, then we'd punt. If McShank didn't 17 it up, the defense wouldn't be in a bad spot to start the series. Glamorous? Nope. But it helped us win far more games than we should have.

player drafted as well. That's a fact. Saying he is a good athlete but nothing more says a lot about our team.

Conner too for that matter. Talk about wasting talent in just a few carries (or catches in Conner's case). Jackie was really a trainwreck those last 3 seasons.

JWS genuinely believed in letting talented fresehman start slowly. He commented that he started Tony Dorsett the same way.

But when Conner came along, he played Conner out of desperation. Just searching for playmakers.
