I think it only appeared at the RAC for one game (1978?). Do you remember it?? and does anyone have a picture? One of the weirdest RU things ever - still remember the smoke coming out of its nose......

Perhaps the funniest moment in RU history… never to be seen again. I thought it was later than ‘78 though?

Wow, I don't remember seeing, or even hearing, about that. Now THAT really is a picture I'd like to see!

-And speaking of things from the 70's, does anybody remember the Rutgers Scarlettes? They weren't around for all that long a time either...lol. Don't really know if they were supposed to be a forerunner of the RU dance team or what, and in truth, I never actually saw them in person at any Rutgers sports event. But I remember seeing a newspaper photo of them in what was then called The Home News, along with a very brief blurb under the picture stating what they were all about as a cheer group.

Their "uniforms" weren't really uniforms as such. They were more like a sort of typical 70's get-up with white "hot pants", white knee-high length zip-up boots, and, I believe, a red top with a white short-length vest over it. (Think along the lines of what the Dallas Cheerleaders wear, but definitely not quite as "extreme". -And no, unfortunately I couldn't find a link to any vintage shot of them. :)

Ahh, those 1970's. Was only just a kid back then, but there really was some interesting stuff that came out of that decade, and I guess the Scarlettes would fit nicely into that group, (along with the RU mechanical knight, of course;-).

It had to be early 80’s. I was at the game and I remember being a bit embarrassed at how absurd it looked. Was it against WVU?

WVU was our big game so maybe.
It was literally like a Trojan Horse.
Part of Rutgers lore. But I think it was early 80’s.

Yep, knew a young woman on the Scarlettes. Can’t remember anything else about that though.

Yeah, Unionst, I'm right there with 'ya. -Didn't personally know anyone on that squad as you did, but the Scatlettes were a thing at one point back in the day.

And like I mentioned above, that photo of them in the newspaper and the short story that followed were the only things that made me aware they even existed.

Guess the Scarlettes were just one of those "'70's things", but it's nice to see someone actually knew a member of that group. 👍 😊
