Semi-OT: What do you listen to during your commute?

Audiobooks. I also listen to them while doing house/yardwork, and in the gym. I get totally distracted and accidentally work out longer than normal, which is good. I just finished listening to every single Spenser book by Robert B. Parker, there had to be like 40 of them. I listen to a book every two weeks on average I guess. I also listen to them to drown out crying children on airplanes.

When it's not football season, I will listen to an audio book from time to time. If you are a country boy or grew up in the country, please get the Ford County audio book by John Grisham, if you haven't read the book. It is a series of back home country stories narrated by Grisham....they will get you hooked. I found myself sitting in the car for a few extra minutes in the parking lot to finish certain stories.

Other than that particular audio book, I'm pretty much all sports talk.

Stern all day every day.....

I would pay double my subscription price even if those were the only two channels I got.

Iowa Public Radio and NPR.

Its local, regional, national, and international news that is delivered without commentary. And its stories or intervies about current events that are interesting and wide ranging from a random guitar maker to advanced farming practices in the South Caucus region of Azerbaijan.

- National sports talk radio is intolerable. It goes for the lowest common denominator and just tries to be catchy and controversial.
- Local sports talk radio is intolerable. Its amateur hour on the mic. It tries to be like National sports talk radio, which means its an imitation of something that is intolerable.
- National talk radio is intolerable. Its a collective circle jerk of likeminded opinions and it goes for the lowest common denominator by misrepresenting events, stances, and issues.
- Radio music is intolerable. The 3 most popular current music stations in Central Iowa are essentially the same. One is top40, one is Adult Alternative, and the other is a mix of the two. Multiple times a day, 2 of the 3 stations are playing the same song. Katy Perry is not my teenage dream, even when she is in skintight jeans. I want to punch that Adam guy from Maroon 5 for assulting my ears so damn often with his God awful voice. And auto-tune has led to an entire generation of talentless assclowns like Kesha(i refuse to put a money sign for the s, thats just dumb).

So ive turned to news and stories on current events. I love it. I am not yelled at by hosts who are trying to cause shock. I am not yelled at by guests who think the winner of the debate they are engaged in will be the one who is loudest. And my ears are not assulted by awful sounds like Maroon 5's singing or **** like what Black Eyed Pea douche and Britney Spears put out. Oh Lord that song is depressing. It depresses me that people want to listen to a crazy chick who cant sing to begin with, speak in a bad British accent.

Public Radio- business news, current events, and local and international news. Its so much nicer than the alternatives.

Hey, um... I work at 620 and MPB and I'm truly flattered that those of you who mentioned it listen in spite of me.
Also want to mention to the many folks out there who have come and gone with MSTM (it's been on a long time, I have too...3 times) to give it a try again.

We're also on FB (facebook.com/620MSTM) and on Twitter @620MSTM.

I also tweet MS high school baseball scores @MSHSBB and football scores @FNUTL. (this is turning into an ad...)

Sorry for digging up an old thread; and for my 32nd different user name. I always forget it and the password, being such an active poster.

I like MPB, but I wish they would play Fresh Air at its normal time. It's the most interesting show on public radio, and we don't get it until 9pm when I'm hardly ever listening.

Hope you're doing well, Jay.

I only have a 30-minute commute, but I listen to Mike and Mike on the way in and the Johnny "Ballpark" Franks show on the way home. I listen to both on 96.7 The Champ out of Biloxi. The Franks show is a local show and is pretty good. They had a local morning show too, but that guy left to host a show in Nashville and they play Mike and Mike now, which I think is just okay...

My commute is an easy 4 miles with very little traffic. Unless Diane Rehm is on, I catch a few minutes of NPR. I know she can't help it but her voice drives me nuts.

I am so glad you carry Moderate-Centrist hosts like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Their voices of reason counterbalance the flag-burning, lily-livered, Ambassador-and-baby-killin' President and his toadies in the Mainstream Media.

I conveniently found out the last three songs of the drive by truckers the dirty south album are pretty much sync up up to my 15 minute commute. Never gonna change, lookout mtn and ******* lonely love is a great 15 minute blister to and from work about half the time.

You'd think it would get old but it doesn't. I do it about half the time. Talk radio in this state is terrible, especially sports talk, gave up on it a long time ago.

Gallo/OOB/KLove AM and H2H/Paul Ott PM

Good choices.

I'm tuned in to Paul Gallo in the AM, H2H in the PM

Ditto. I do switch back and forth between Gallo and OOB. 90 min commute allows me to catch all the commercials.

It varies in the mornings, but on the way home I listen to The All Out Show on Shade45 (SiriusXM). It's funny as hell. Good music, too... if ya like hip-hop.

Opie and Anthony in the morning....

Best radio going today. Jim Norton...funny every morning. They have gotten away from the "Shock Jock" bits and do more interviews now. Have some really interesting guests.

Mid day I listen to Ron & Fez on the same channel or SVP.

Other than that its The Joe Rogan Podcast when new or anything on Sirius/XM. Don't know what I'd do without it.

Take a step back... You still listen to CD's....

May be a reason you don't know what anyone is talking about in this thread.

Get you some music on your iPhone and an Aux Cable man!

Tell us you at least burn your CD's...

The only place I know of you can buy them anymore is Walmart or online. Am I right?

Get on iTunes and play around. Its not hard and if you set your phone to sync when you plug it in you get taken care of everytime you get on the computer.

Like I said, I'm a dinosaur. Don't buy that much music any more. When I do, it's online at Amazon. I just don't really like the navigation on the iPhone (haven't really spent much time with it at all though). Really, in the car or in bed right before I go to sleep is about the only time I listen to music anyway. I have no desire to have an earplug in my ear. I'm sure I'll eventually join the 21st Century, but for now, the CD's and XM do the job for me at least as well as the iPhone could, and again to me it's a PITA to use.

Me too - a short, sweet time of day

You could take the stereo/CD player out of my truck and I would be perfectly content. Too much noise in this world for me today.

I'm normally tuned to SiriusXM Channel 6

Hits from the '60s. And Cousin Brucie, probably the best DJ in history, is on a couple of times a week. The guy must be near 80 by now but he still sounds the same as always.

Occasionally I'll tune to a local station.

Listener since 10/2004, when O&A was a premium channel. Sirius merger has neutered the boys so much. They used to be more consistent Radio Gold, when they had their own XM studio, and Stern was still on terrestrial radio.

I record OOB, via Radioshift on my Mac. At 10:00. I edit the recording, taking out all the intros & commercials for a reduction to about two hours. That takes all of 5 minutes. I can then listen to in 2x speed in about an hour, on my iPhone. 2x makes Bo sound like a fast-talking coastal elite. :)

5- 10 minutes of work makes OOB go from 3 hours, to 1 hour.
