If he decided not to go to one of the elite programs (Duke, Kentucky, Kansas) why would he pick State or Ole Miss over Jackson State? I really that sounds a little preposterous, but hear me out. The pros for State are we are an SEC program and his dad played here. However, it just doesn't seem like his dad playing here is having much of an effect, and we all know that the SEC is just not a power conference now. I suppose his justification for picking State or Ole Miss would be to possibly contend for a national championship, but if that were his main motivation he would go to one of the powers. Also, nothing I have seen from either program point to being title contenders with the addition of one great player.
But the pros for JSU are that he would play for his high school coach who all indications point to him really liking Brent. Brent is focusing on Jackson kids, so Newman would get to play with a lot of guys he grew up playing with. And also, he would literally be playing 10 minutes from home. Obviously the SWAC is not a power conference, but I would think that with Newman JSU would make the big dance (possibly as better than a 16 seed).
Am I crazy for thinking this?
