...I've been reading some comments over at NAFOOM just to see the reaction from Saturday. It seems to me the consensus over there is the game was well in hand, and Nutt called off the dogs too early because he didn't want to embarrass his old friend Jack Crowe. Now, I didn't see the game because I was drinking in the Junction, but this seems highly unrealistic to me. If that were the case, Nutt would've turned the heat back on when they got within a TD or two, correct? I think it's a cheap justification for a humiliating defeat. Whatever makes them feel better, I guess.

What's the consensus here?

But, only half-assed.

Both the O and D for UMiss seemed lethargic in the 2nd half, but I don't know them well enough to contribute that to 'calling off the dogs' or complete ineptitude by the coaches.

Personally, I'm leaning toward the latter.

I think his analysis was correct.

Nutt did get conservative and call off the dogs. Only thing was Jax State did not. By the time they realized it, they could not crank the players back up again. And as the guysaid, that was more scary because that showed a real coaching problem.

However, they just got their *** beat in the 2nd half...no matter what the excuse.

If he did do that just to spare his friend's feelings, then that is one dumb son of a *****. Much like, you know, Mullen saving everything until the Egg Bowl last year. Right?

And if his team was good enough to call off the dogs early, why he couldn't call them back sometime with the double OT is beyond me.
