Seriously, what do you think the expectations are for the coach UM hires?

I would say our expectations for our coach are winning record, successful againstMississippi, still be in the running or win the west championship every so often, and bowl game every year. TSUN has an inflated opinion of themselves (all hat and no cattle) so what do you think their expectations are? If they think they shouldbe battling it out w/ Alabama and LSU for the SEC championship and 9 to 10 win seasons every year, there are very few coaches that can deliver. Briles, Leach, Sumlin, Pattersoncan probablyget them to what I think our expectations are for our coach but why would anyoone think that anyone in that group can get UM to what I mentioned as what I think their expectations are? Leach is the only one who has taken a team to compete for the conference championship in a major conference and we saw what ole miss did to them in the bowl game. Just curious

The core issue with the bears is there inflated expectations. It goes back to the 50's and 60's when they played for methical cotton farmers seed weekly's national championships. A great majority of there fan base thinks they are a super power when in reality they are in the botton tier with us, vandy, and UK. For this reason alone they have an inflated view of what they should be, and when they make a hire they dont give that coach time to build or make a stupid call ie Cutcliff.

I honestly think we have a better chance to succed due in large part becuase 90% of Mississippi people identfy with State. If you dont beilve that look at the increase in enrollment over the last three years. For the first time ever MSU has the leadership pulling in the right direction as opposed to the forward Rebels and the whole Boone, Jones, Kyatt situation. No matter who they hire it will be a rebuidling project and will take time, time I dont think they will give the new coach. Saturday is so important on so many different levels, can Dan lead us to a bowl game, can we win the recruites in the state, and can we show we are still going in the right direction.

As long as OM folks continue to think its 1959 they will continue to sprial downward.</p>

Until some other teams in the SEC falter, it will take a very good coach to get State or Ole Miss to 6-8 wins consistently. I think Mullen is a good coach, possibly very good, and if UM was at the top of one of their cycles, he might not be able to make 6 wins consistently.

The reality is UM and State have to win all 4 OOC games. State needs to beat UK and UM needs to beat Vandy. That's five games that a good coach at UM or State should win consistently. Then there's the egg bowl for the potential 6th win. If you don't get lucky with your scheduling (i.e., UK and Vandy in the same year), it's pretty damn good if your down years go 6-6. And there will be years where you have a schedule like state's this year, where even with the East being down, it would have taken a very good team just to get to 8 wins.

Even if you're counting on bowl wins in your 7-9 number, most SEC bowls pit a higher seed from another conference against a lower SEC team. That keeps the bowl game from being anything like a sure thing.

expansion and the bigger schools having more dollars. I don't think that's a defeatist attitude at all, just realistic. I don't know if the Ole Miss people "get it."...they may continue to live in a fantasy world.

Who still thinks we're a super power? Every time I see Ole Miss fan's rank us, it's always in the bottom tier. Maybe a few 70+ year olds think we're still a power, but that's it.<div>
As for Mississippi people identifying with the school, that all depends on who is currently doing better. We have plenty of "non-elitist" fans. And if I remember correctly (I honestly could be wrong), I think our freshman class this past year was larger than yalls, and we ended up having a larger all around enrollment.</div><div>
</div><div>As for the hire, we want the same thing yall do. 6-8 wins a year, occasionally a 9-12 win year, and occasionally be in Atlanta. Which is probably expecting too much right now (for both of us). Honestly, what I want the most is a coach who will stay here for 6-10 years to build some stability, something we haven't had in a while.</div>
